Re: Clink
As a fan, the attrition is to be expected hate to see him go but wish him well on his future endeavors. He part of the crew that got us a chip so no ill feelings this way :salute:

Now as a dad, I met cat & the fact that he remembered my kid, remarked on his improvement & gave him pointers left shorty gassed af & left a positive impression so from that standpoint I hate to see him go.

I definitely hate to see Clink go too.. but the way he went out raises a hell of a lot of red flags. He told players as recent as last night (while talking about this mornings workouts) that he was all in at UM, only to flip on em.. I can only imagine how the kids are feeling. I'm sure he's a good dude. That just wasn't a good look on his part.

Michigan posted its G.M. position recently in hopes it would help fill a few voids, including a lagging NIL program. It didn’t take long for folks at U-M to start texting with their opinions when work broke it would be former Michigan Director of Player Personnel Sean Magee.

RELATED: Behind the scenes — Losing Steve Clinkscale, what it means for the program, retention, etc.

“Sean coming back is a great deal for donors and NIL,” one we respect said — and that was our first thought, as well.

Fate brought him back for his second stint. Word is Oklahoma A.D. Joe Castiglione, one of the most respected athletic directors in the country, was set to hire Magee last October when the “signgate” scandal blew up at Michigan. The Sooners’ athletic department needed to make sure he not been involved before proceeding — they did, and they came back to him recently with an offer.

Magee was prepared to take it and move his family to the Sooner State when Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore called him and asked him if he’d signed yet. He hadn’t. When Moore offered to make him his G.M., Magee jumped on it. He and Moore had been close in Ann Arbor, and now he’ll be one of the key players to help in his friend’s transition from offensive coordinator to head coach.

In his first stint in Ann Arbor, Magee had input on several decisions that helped change the course of the program. He was the one responsible for bringing in strength coach Ben Herbert, recommending him and insistent when Harbaugh was hesitant, and was extremely well respected in the building.

Though the hire can’t be announced for a few days due to job posting guidelines, Magee is the guy. Former head coach Jim Harbaugh first brought him to Ann Arbor from the U.S. Naval Academy in 2017 as Director of Player Personnel. He led the planning process for recruiting prospective student-athletes, overseeing geographical assignments of assistant coaches, and coordinating the execution of on-campus visits.

At Michigan, he’ll have a bigger role, working from his office in Schembechler Hall to get NIL up to speed, working directly with donors to raise money for opportunities for the players and overseeing other facets of the football program. He was one of the most respected members of Harbaugh’s staff, well-liked and a hard worker … most importantly, appreciated by the coaches and many of the large donors. He’s remained in touch with several and will hit the ground running when he arrives in Ann Arbor for his second stint.

Magee has been with the Chicago Bears the last two seasons as the franchise’s Chief of Staff, responsible for the allocation and administration of a $10.1M annual operating budget for all team related activity and expenses. He was also responsible for negotiating assistant coach and staff member salaries, and they’ll use his expertise at Michigan to help create opportunities for the student-athletes.

Watch for more on this hire when it’s official, including an article with the Wolverines’ G.M.

I didn't know he brought Ben Herbert over. And it seems he initially left because he wasn't too crazy about Harbaugh.

He's good in my book :blessed:

Recruiting is the area of least concern I have under Sherrone's leadership.

Word is Sean Magee will be paired with someone whose speciality is only recruiting and scouting like a Courtney Morgan.

Situations change sometimes the decision is made for you, I’m pretty sure he ain’t want to necessarily go
