Reading through this thread and :wow: a lot of truth in here. Not sure how I missed this. Anyways I hate living here with a passion, there’s really nothing to do and like someone said, damn near the entire city is the hood because everything is so close lol. Whenever I visit other cities it makes me want to pack my bags, working hard to make it a reality. Been here 30 years and have experienced everything that it offers, I want something bigger and better, especially since I’m planning on having children in the next few years. There is nothing for children really which is why they get into so much shyt. When we were younger we had liberty land, discovery zone, celebration station, adventure river, etc..We have none of this now. I lived in Klondike up until I was around 29 now I stay off of colonial. It’s a better area and I have more of a piece of mind, but shyt not too far is orange mound or across the express wat is parkway village :russ: a five to eight minute drive and nikkas is plotting. All of my friends or people I know who left Memphis for Nashville, ATL, Arizona and Houston leveled up and say they wouldn’t ever move back.

I’m still in college but I think i’m in the minority that actually doesn’t mind the idea of staying in the city.
:ld:

Yea it’s boring af but it ain’t nothing to make something to do, if folks learn how to act maybe we can have nice things like we did in the past. I’m young but I still remember Liberty Land, that old Jillian's downtown and that peabody mall, when the mid south fair was actually in the city. Ion think it’s completely out of the question that we can have stuff like that again or get it back. I think the main things that make me think of staying here after school is this is really all I know, all of both moms and pops side is born and raised here, I already love the south, the high black population and the low cost of living.

I can make it past some of them but that low cost of living is just :ohlawd: to a brehette like me, especially with these student loans imma have after school.

And the city being so black, if I decide to have kids ain’t gotta worry about em getting influenced by cacs too much.
:whew:

Anyway it’s just thoughts, if there is anywhere else with low cost of living and a decent black population, I wouldn’t hesitate to look it up tho if ya’ll wanna drop some off.

Yeah I read an article about the cost of living being so low for a big city. Probably the reason i haven’t really put a plan into action because this is all I know also. Never lived anywhere else so I don’t even know where to begin. I definitely would prefer to stay in the south due to the cost of living but eventually I see myself going where my degrees/Certs allow me to go. I was looking at jobs in the IT field here and while there were some, it was so small compared to some of the other cities I searched for. I’ve considered ATL, Charlotte, Austin, Houston, Dallas.

Thats 100% the reason I left. Me and my wife lived it up big time in Memphis, pockets always fat, nice place to live, could do whatever we wanted, knew a lot of the folks throwing the decent get togethers, etc...but i told her I AM NOT RAISING MY SON HERE. So we packed up and moved back to my city, Atlanta. This traffic gets on my last nerve and sometimes i think of moving back but when we take that trip back to Memphis to visit her family i recognize why we left. Just so little positive for the youth to do up there.

They NEVER some back. Nashville or Arizona is the next stop for my family. I've had the pleasure of living in another city and my wife doesn't want to be a lifetime Memphian. As soon as she is finished with nursing school we are out of here. Jobs in my field are EXTREMELY limited. And your right there is 0....0.....0 things here for kids to do. That's why they get so fat and are mad all the damn time. I remember when Parkway village use to be ok....not it's :mjcry:

The Passage of Time
I left Memphis, TN in 1990 and never looked backed. Grew up in Memphis Orange Mound area "Minnie Wagner" nieghborhood. Jump in my car and drove to Los Angeles with 5,000 in my pocket. Best decision I made, my brothers and sister tell me about the fukk shyt going on in Memphis, because for the most part I rarely go back to visit. I make facebook friends with old highschool chicks who are single they fly out to to kick it other than that, death of a family member is the only time I go back to Memphis.

They don't have anything for kids to do because they are prone to do stupid shyt :francis: when we were kids for the most part we knew how to act ..... Memphis kids started to act stupid around that peabody place time line.
