I have no idea why dudes feel the need to exaggerate so much when they speak about Chicago and Memphis.

Memphis is not even in the top 15 nationally on this list.

#16. Memphis, Tennessee
Murder rate per 100k people: 20.52

Number of reported murders (2015): 135

Population: 657,936

The 30 cities with the highest murder rates in the US

Memphis is not on this list at all.

Memphis is 7th on this list.

Memphis is 15th on this list.
America’s 25 murder capitals: Milwaukee has 10th highest murder rate of any American city
Thank you for posting this, people especially out of towners stay getting the wrong idea about the city. It's no different from any other average predominately African American city, you have some that are thriving in the middle and upper class while most come from the working or lower class due to obviously less opportunities to move up the social ladder.

shyt, at least i ain't from hickory hood

i grew up on the fringe of the north tbh, right there where midtown and north memphis intersect so depending on who i'm talking to i can claim either area and people let it rock, lol

Yea seemed alright when we moved here about ten years ago but it's been getting worse and worse every year. Be hearing gun shots damn near every night like damn do yall ever get tired of shooting
:gucci:

Oh and don't know if it's been added in this thread yet but MATA bus fukkery is UNMATCHED.

We didn't have a car when I was in middle school so we had to take it damn near on the daily and I used to ride it home the first semester of my freshman year in high school. It's a damn mess, dirty as hell along with the terminal downtown, late a lot of times but there is hardly ever a dull moment. I used to be so embarrassed riding it, hoping my classmates wouldn't see me getting on or off
:mjcry:

But when you on there and see some of them damn characters, especially them Vietnam vet types that probably ain't been in they right mind since the 70s it's
:ohhh::lolbron::mjlol:

Been living lovely since I moved out to the Bartlett/Cordova/Lakeland area... it's quiet af but at this point of my life I can appreciate that. The highlight of my week is getting buck at my kids sports games. We are like the only family that yells and screams at the games. White priveledged kids be shook
:lolbron:

Life is good when you are the most ratchet in the neighborhood. There is a guy that owns a lawn service right around the corner... I walked up on him to chop it up and now he keeps my yard on point for the low. We are two of the only young black families in the area. Bruh lives on the big ass lake with a deck and let's a nikka come thru to fish and shyt.

Memphis is high on the violent crime list which is different from the murder list.

:beli:

The so called violent crime in Memphis that you are talking about comes mostly from the transporting and selling of drugs by gangs. Cities like Memphis, Chicago, St. Louis and New Orleans are the transportation hub of the USA and the Mexican gangs have targeted them because there is already a transportation infrastructure in place to ship drugs to the rest of the Country. Gangs and drug dealers are inherently violent.

I lived all over, had a place by Overton square in 2008 my people all over. From the suburbs of Germantown :blessed:to Hyde park :dame: Things have changed a little bit but still same old Memphis. I live in Scottsdale now but planning on moving back to the south soon either Gwinett ga or NC.

Didn't know there were so many Memphis brehs on the coli :jbhmm: moms live out here so y'all chill with the crime. I'm here for the holidays, put me on the new spots. Beale still the move on the weekends ?

Beale is still okay for the weekends. But I tend to stay away from the area since I make a lil more than I used too. Can't risk it all for brehs down that just be looking for a reason to shoot :demonic:
But I hit the bars now like Houston's, Ruth Chris, and Fox and Hound and just mingle. You will always find at least a couple of 8s to burn some time with.

yep

if i had to think of one time where i saw an insane number of hot black women in memphis, it was when aaron mcgruder came to speak at the university of memphis years back, a nikka was NOT prepared fr

there's this one cat here (tim green) who does catered brunches with discussions centered around popular shows (insecure, she's gotta have it), i went to the insecure one with my girl last year and was pretty impressed with the number of good looking women there, there were hardly any men there either. brehs, don't sleep on the tim green brunches if you wanna meet women, you ain't gotta be at the nba games or the clubs to meet ladies. whole foods, sprouts, i done gave y'all enough game, go out there and prosper

The women that shop at sprouts :blessed:

But yea going to college has made me realize that a lot of people do think of Memphis as some kind of warzone. Like forreal on some wild wild west shyt, they don’t even have to ask what part you’re from. But it does automatically give you some type of street cred so I guess it ain’t all bad
:ld:

Especially when I tell people we’ve moved around the city a lot of my life, from the Berclair area near Summer ave aka Mexico to Orange Mound to over there near Poplar and Cleveland, and since the last couple of years Hickory hood people automatically hit me with the
:picard:

And i’m just
:yeshrug:

Never had to live in North Memphis so there’s that at least
:ld:
Lol I'm from the North, lived my whole life in Raleigh/Frayser and Smokey City
