Awhile back in the RIP Kobe thread, someone mentioned the idea of starting a thread for those of us that want to carry on Kobe’s legacy of hard work and dedication so that we may be able to check on each other and hold each other accountable for getting to our goals.
I’d like it if this thread could stay in here and be stickied. I know we come here primarily to shoot the shyt about sports but I feel like a thread like this can truly keep up the real connections we’ve begun to develop. And at the same time we can use this thread to challenge ourselves and be better.
So with that said, anyone that wants to get involved it’s simple. Just post whatever goals you’re working towards, your process, progress made so far, how much further you have to go, and what tasks must be done in order for you to complete and go on to the next challenge. I’ll use myself as an example:
And please feel free to indulge whatever amount of info is comfortable to you. Let’s be our own advocates and each other’s motivators brehs. Let’s honor Kobe by honoring the best in ourselves. Let’s go be great brehs.

Name: 2Quik
Personal goals: Multi-linguistics, at least 20 books read by end of the year, teaching myself how to draw/paint, teach myself a musical instrument (piano), regularly using yoga/meditation, improve physique (Body goal: Pac/Wayne level) and overall health (transition into plant based diet), work out a more proper budget to begin learning financial literacy.
How I’m doing it: 30 mins of Duolingo daily, found a new app called uTalk which has many African languages. Will pursue soon. Take 30 mins to an hour to practice drawing simple pictures from google. I use my left hand to teach myself how to be ambidextrous and because it forces me to focus more. Practice piano 15 to 30 mins a day so I can ease the habit into my routine. Four days a week at the gym, roughly an hour, broken down into Upper body, lower body, full body, and vanity days. Yoga is done first thing in the morning before I do anything so as to have a clear fresh mind. Yoga and meditation lasts for an hour and a half.
Professional goals: Earn IT certifications in CyberSecurity with an emphasis on Network and Cloud security. Use employment in this field in order to more freely pursue my artistic endeavors such as books projects (both fiction and non-fiction), poetry, music, and when proficient enough painting as well.
What I’m doing: using study material from school as well as a cbtnuggets account someone let me use. I’ve also begun re-igniting my artistic fires since I’ve graduated and am only a few months away from obtaining my required certs. Study time varies but must be from 2 To 4 hours.
Other goals: Try to be more understanding towards others. Dedicate myself to myself and realize that this is totally fine. Only rely on connections already established. Worry about those new connections as my life improves and expands. Overcome myself.
How I’ll do that: The yoga and meditation helps a lot. But also listening more to my instinct and inner voice and trusting it more. We often find ourselves trying to live out the dreams of others rather than pursuing our own. I’m going to quit smoking weed from today until mid April as a challenge to myself that I can overcome myself and reach higher goals.
And please feel free to indulge whatever amount of info is comfortable to you. Let’s be our own advocates and each other’s motivators brehs. Let’s honor Kobe by honoring the best in ourselves. Let’s go be great brehs.
