So, with this "Stretch" provision in the CBA which allows a team to waive a player in the last year of his contract and spread out his payment over 3 seasons without having to pay luxury tax on it (although it will count against the cap for each of those seasons) there is really no logical reason for Dolan not to match Houston's offer for Jeremy Lin.

The key words here are "logical" and "Dolan", so I would not be surprised at all if they let Lin walk. But if that happens, we the fans need to focus our anger on Dolan for getting homotional when this is just business.

I am unfamiliar with that benefit but given everything that has happened I am leaning towards thinking that the Knicks re-sign Lin...despite all of the complications. Melo said that he and Dolan both want him back...so that's major.

If he performs, its a plus. If he wilts under the pressure, its only $5K for the next two years. By then, Kidd can teach him a few things...and if that fails, use this 'stretch' provision. Works for me.

I just found out about the provision today:

Schmeelk: Ever Hear Of Stretch Provision In NBA's New CBA? New York Knicks Can Avoid Poison-Pill 3rd Year Of Jeremy Lin Contract « CBS New York

In my opinion, the only chance we have to make a serious title run this upcoming season is if Lin turns out to be the real deal and becomes an all-star quality point guard. Because of the financial implications I fully understood why the Knicks were going to let him walk, but I was also resigned to not reaching the finals. Now with this provision, they have no real excuse...and we should just roll the dice with this kid.

I concur, actually. After letting the dust settle a little bit and accepting the stunt that Houston pulled, it can still work.

What's the rationale for Kidd not being the starter when he will be the most seasoned PG on the roster? (With or without Lin)

I don't think Felton should start over Kidd. Kidd started last year in Dallas. Is this decision supposed to preserve Kidd's health?

Not so sure, Do you think we won't have any injuries this season? If there are injuries, we know who the usual suspects are. Kurt will see some time.

No... I am sure. There a bunch of injuries this year, and how many minutes did Jerome Jordan, Gadzuric, Bill Walker, and Toney Douglas play?

So far there are like 4 players directly in front of him. Chandler, Camby, Novak, Amare.

Even if two of them get hurt... The Knicks are more likely to give a guard more time on the court and move Melo to the 4 spot, just like this year.

He's not seeing the court like that. He won't average more than 4 or 5 minutes a game.

Good point.
