Serious question - for the folks who said he should have signed that deal, would you sign a deal like that? In return, Spotify gets a piece of EVERY venture you participate in?

Could he renegotiate and just do the show for less money?

I feel like they really don't promote outside ventures on the pod besides live shows. Possibly for this reason.

I highly doubt they wanted creative control. The show is a success. If they did want a piece of the tour, then that’s fair considering most of the marketing and promo comes directly from their platform. As far as Rory and Mal’s ventures, is anything they do going to generate millions on its own? I can’t see it but you never know.

If there is one thing that these people are gonna want, they absolutely want creative control. That's where discussion about ads and such come in. Joe'nem want a continuous podcast from start to finish with no interruptions. Spotify wants to insert host-read ads in the middle of their shyt. That's a creative control discussion as well as an ad-revenue discussion. Spotify wanting to OWN the IP of something can lead to creative control discussions and issues because they can change the format of shyt up how they want now that they own it.


As far as Rory and Mal, even if their own ventures don't generate money at the moment, Spotify still wants to be in their pockets because you never know.

Can someone smarter than me explain to me whether or not outperforming podcasts that aren’t exclusive to Spotify, while you’re exclusive to Spotify matters? (To be clear, I’m team Joe and generally team labor whenever these discourse come up, i just feel like saying “i outperformed the ringer” isn’t a strong argument when i know i listed you their podcasts on Apple.)

To me this goes back on if Joe is telling the truth about outside deals. If Joe really making millions on SOTC, Love and Hip Hop, and The Pull up like he says then no I probably wouldn't sign that contract. If them numbers ain't real though I definitely would. I guess it comes down to when is enough enough. To compare it to the business world a lot of people start a business to eventually cash out and sell it when they reach a certain number. For me you give me that 5 or 10 million and I can sit back and relax and stop the grind.

Another big factor is how much potential growth do I see outside of the podcast. Like for Rory and Mal especially I would want the deal unless they really believe that they can flip their podcast popularity into other ventures and cake up for real. I personally don't see it but I'm not them.

EDIT: It's like I said in a previous post even before this last podcast, at a certain point you got to look to cash out. Especially with podcasts where we've seen a lot lose popularity quickly and go from the hottest thing out to barely discussed so you strike while the iron is hot. So if I'm Joe at this point it is the time to strike IMO.

That the problem thoe it's opinion . Its so many visions he probably has for his podcast .That's why I'm glad the Dave Chappelle situation turned out the way that it did . Many nikkas closed Dave for not taken that money last I checked Dave could make a 100 million fukkin with Netflix ...it just feels better to stick to your guns and be right . I'm not gonna give up something with my last name on without a fight . So many nikka willing to jump at the first offer ...even if it's some bullshyt.

I mean think about Dave Chappelle first two season of the DVDs made 100 million (?) . Plus comedian central wanted to add white people and make it people and make it more " universally appealing" for others to watch it . If all they offered Dave Chappelle was 50 million that means he's at least worth 125(?) .
