I prefer Ice's commentary more than Mal & Rory's, but the pod was much funnier when they were on.

Lowkey only feel like Rory doing the pod to promote his music and cause hennypalooza fell off. He never liked poddin it was just an easy lick, same with Mal. I dont understand how people can listen to just Mal and Rory tbh

Ice and ish might not be as ‘funny’ and they don’t have that youthful energy on their side that would get younger people or girls to listen but they are all around just better co-host than the former and thats after a solid year in.

Between rory, joe, and mal the podcast was just feeling too industry, like a bunch of inside jokes of “guess who i know” “oh you know so and so hhehehe lets not say who we’re talking about for 20 minutes cause only we know” type shyt that was getting corny

To me when R&M were on the show the sum of the parts was better than each of them individually to me. Just their chemistry carried the show. I do like Ice and like Ish but chemistry wise the three of them just don't click to me and I guess like you called it lack energy. I used to listen to the show for the laughs. I never walked away feeling smarter or like I learned something. The mood of the pod seemed to shift to trying to be more mature more intellectual and ain't none of these dudes smart enough to pull it off. I went back recently to listen to a bunch of episodes to see if I've been missing out since I stopped and shyt just wasn't clicking. Ish lacks the ability to show vulnerability at all, seems no matter the subject he's supernikka. I loved that it took Surf to finally call him out. And Ice is such a contrarian to a point it's predictable and takes away from his regular discussions.

My issue isn’t so much with Rory, (although I found most of his jokes to be corny) but mostly Mal. Its like he’s mostly tapped out, and no it wasn’t just when they started beefin even when they were recording back in the old studio set up he used to be the background dude on his phone. When he does chime in he will say something so objectively wrong you have to wonder why no ones bothering to correct him. Then when he’s trying to make a point he just repeats the same point over and over again, like he would just never further expound upon the topic at hand.

Ex. Joe: “so what did you think of the new benny?”

Mal: “it was real cool, its just reaallly good music, you know? Its just at a point where he’s producing really good music, i mean reaaally good”

And he talks that way about everything. Even when he’s in an argument it’s just him repeating the same thing over and over again, and he’s so long winded with it. The ‘cool guy’ shyt just kind of gets old to me after awhile, like what is his contribution to the pod at this point besides being a punching bag for joe?

Once in a while you got a good story out of him cause he has a long history with joe, but he’s mostly regulated to punchlines and when it comes to serious topics its more of the above.

But like i said, i understand why people probably liked the pod bettter with them, because they had more of a youthful energy. They go to events and rub shoulders with people and that makes for interesting weekend discussions. They’re now both single (i think) so that makes for better girl discussion, they dont have kids so they’re more free to do shyt outside the pod. They are also overall more ‘funny’ than ice and ish, the latter who isn’t really funny at all but is at least more articulate than mal.

On another note, Ish trying to act like sex ain't top 5 for a relationship is just short sighted to me. It's much easier to find better sex than a better person so you just asking for a reason to cheat down the line imo

The number one thing I can’t stand about Rory is he comes off as a social climber in all aspects. I honestly believe Rory was just fine with being an employee/b-mic to joe and riding the wave. He would have been right back at work the next day if Joe and Mal had not gotten into it. Even after all the humiliation and disrespect in that small time frame, you saw how eager Rory was to put it all behind him and get back to the jokes?

I think maybe both Mal and Rory were feeling a way about the Spotify deal and Akademiks shyt, and once Mal snapped it put the battery in his back. Mal probably didn’t care about the money but he was 100% in his feelings about being Joe’s employee and he was probably feeling that way for a while. Once someone actually came out and said, Mal you’re an employee, he knew he couldn’t walk it back. Couldn’t put the toothpaste back in the tube after that and Mal is too ego driven to let it slide. Thats why he came back all pouty.

Once joe said no to the Spotify deal on everyones behalf and the pandemic hit it was a wrap.

@Gizmo_Duck @Doomsday I can def see that being the case re: Rory and Mal. I think Rory would have def stuck around, but he didn't expect Mal to crash out the way he did. I do think they're making the best of the situation though. Mal has had to step up though and I think his apathy towards the pod was due to turmoil behind the scenes.

I think its the other way around. Rory invites Mal to do a lot of shyt/just hang out and Mal just shrugs it off or cancels at the last minute. Whenever they do hang out, its always work/pod related.

Naw, Rory is a promoter, that's just part of the game. Being approachable and sociable don't mean Rory fukk with Mal. Like I said, first episode of their podcast Rory threw Mal under the bus real crazy.

Wasn’t there a whole thing about how everyday Mal left the pod he would go to someones crib and smoke and play video games? Kind of like a hang out spot?

I think maybe mal has people he’s cool with its just not people on the pod. He started getting more cool with Rory later on the pod
