So true. I had friends in the military that would come back to town and bring these East Coast cats with them and man these cats were so delusional about their importance and couldn't fathom the idea that we didn't hold their legends in high regards like they did. I always use to tell them that we had way more in common with the West Coast rappers b/c of the car culture, weather, music, and geography. I see you're from Dallas and me being from Houston you're right. I mean the big singles from NY would get played but for the most part we had our own shyt going on. Not to mention Screw being heavy as hell back then a lot of the times we didnt even listen to the radio. It's the argument I've had for years stretching back to my military experience with dudes from NY. Us dudes from Texas and other places in the south wasn't fukking with Nas and Wu Tang like that and they'd swear it was because we were to " slow" to get it. I'd always quote "The late great Pimp-C" "it gets no play down in Texas that shyt don't bump in da trunk". But on the real Joe and Ish remind me of them dudes cause we all in the same age range, early to mid 40s. They can't comprehend that we wasn't checking for they local regional ass legends. Most of the south from GA to TX fukked with the west coast back then. K104 in Dallas would only play the big singles by NY rappers but other than that we had are own thing
