The podcast didn’t really take off until far into Mal joining. So it’s hard to say that it was him. Might as well say it was Sayvon background magic. Or Parks being more than background engineer.
It was a long term hustle for Joe to build that brand. People won’t just tune in to your shyt off the bat if you aren’t a interview-based pod.
Joe was out hustling getting new pod fans through doing others pods, being social media active, doing other shows like ES and Charlemagne collabos etc. And more importantly they started filming it around episode 80-90; when Mal joined.
So really a lot of things happened, Mal being just one in a long range of things

He had no argument, to me this was one of those things that everyone agreed was dope so Joe felt he had to be the odd man out and find something to disagree with.

I heard Joe trying to say he has had takes sometimes to facilitate discussion on the pod which I can believe but it’s the conviction he’s wrong with that has me doubting that theory loll

Ak has said the same thing when they were on everyday struggle. Joe would even agree with him on topics but once the show starts, would completely flip just for entertainment sake, which I do believe.
I think he enjoys playing devil's advocate so they just don't all sit and agree about everything
Joe way off on his comments about Musiq's live singing at the Verzuz, and I saw singers who aren't at the level of fame that it stops them from speaking freely on social media talking about how poorly he sounded. They definitely weren't bigging him up as him doing something impressive and different.
