I wired my house not to increase my internet speed, but the speed between devices in my house. I stream bluray rips, and regularly transfer files, and the latency and overhead of wifi connected devices causes problems and took up more of my time than I liked.

Wired, I can stream to multiple rooms and still use the net from my main box without any slow down and without any degradation in the stream quality.

But you're right, if you're in a single user situation, going wired isn't necessary.

My HTPC is wired in the office. I stream to 3 rooms, my wife is usually on Plex or Netflix or watching a game with me on League Pass or local cable.

When I am downloading something on the desktop and maxing out my connection, I tether my phone if I'm trying to watch something online, play a game or just get online.

Unlimited LTE at the crib comes in handy :ahh:

I already got my wish list together for my NAS server once I move into my new crib next year. shyt's gonna be so piff rack mounted in my basement :noah:

Case: RSV-L4500 (15 3.5" drive bays)

30TB, that's about 600 50GB blu ray rips :ahh:

Been eyeing that bytch down too. Newegg been out of stock for a while but supposedly they coming back at the end of the month. :shaq:

:leon: i like this case

i was gonna go with BitFenix Prodigy Mini-ITX Computer Case - Black BFC-PRO-300-KKX - Micro Center but this one is smaller, still looks decent, and can fit way more drives :ooh:

Def not smaller. It's a full blown server case.

What CPU do you plan on going with?

What kind of routers do yal have? And what are your D/L speeds wired compared to wireless?

I just use the Fios router. Can't give any comparisons since I do all of my downloading via the wire.

I am probably going with an i5 or i7.

Basically I am trying to make sure this thing is nvidia shield ready if at all possible. I don't care about an optical drive.

PSU and Video card is my main concern. Wil start building in a couple of weeks

What does Nvidia Shield let you do?

CPU is going to be 77W on full load alone if you choose Ivy Bridge so your limit is going to have to most likely be a card that does 130W max load so you can leave some juice for other devices.

NVIDIA Shield is the portable just announced by nvidia that is basically the most powerful handheld out there...I want the option if I want it :yeshrug:

BTW, I changed my mind about the case...I am getting this:
Newegg.com - Fractal Design Node 605 FD-CA-NODE-605-BL Black Aluminum / Steel ATX Media Center / HTPC Computer Case

Looks good but is there any reason to get this over the Silver Stones (same form factor)? As far as HTPC goes its too large of a case for me unless its also going to act as a file server.

Burning blu-rays, definitely. Converting? If you are going to be encoding bluray's this is an area where the i5 would shine vs an i3 depending on what codec you'll be using.
