How much the garage conversion cost you?

Any tips for someone planning to do it?

Ours came in at just under $15k total. This included labor, all materials, and the new concrete floor. We used nice stuff too. The door, window, and mirror alone were almost $4k alone. We could have done it for considerably less if we had cheaped out on a lot of the building materials and shopped a little more consciously. It probably could have come in at under $10k.

We had a Mexican breh do a lot of the heavier work such framing in the patio door, window, electrical and concrete. I did some of the drywalling, framing, and all the finish work myself. My advice would be to do as much as you can on your own, time and ability permitting.

How handy are you when it comes to remodeling projects? Looking back on it, I think my biggest regret was agreeing to a set price for the labor. I wish that I had hired breh at an hourly rate since I ended up doing so much of the work myself. Also, what should have been a three week project, turned out taking up the entire summer. I don't think he would had stretched it out so long had I been paying him hourly. How extensive of a remodel are you thinking of and do you have a few tools at your disposal. Insulation, drywall, and trimming are all easy. After seeing him do the floor, I realized that I could have done it myself as well, and probably done a better job tbh. The only thing I really needed him for was the electrical work. If I had the time and a few more tools, I could have done the door and window myself as well.

I'll be a homeowner soon. I haven't looked forward to something this much in a long time. Sitting at work browsing through house lists daily. Monitoring credit. Wondering if loan process will be a bytch to us or not.
