So there is a level progression gate at 20. You need to be at adventure guild 15 to go past it
Not all that bad I’m at 12 going 13 but I have 5 characters waiting. This game is just too dope they hit it out the park with the visuals and simple world building. Idk this is looking like a game that’s gonna hold my top spot for awhile. I got a deep rotation of games until the series x drops
The trap most people fall into is trying to level up/gear every character early in the game.
Stick to 2-3. Your 4th character can basically be naked and low level, just to round out the elemental damage. For example, my Wind/Fire/Lightning characters are all level 20 and fully equipped....the Ice character is level 7 and has basically no gear.
You can get Adventure Rank (and 15, so you can Ascend your character) hella fast just by doing the main quests. After that Domains open up which also give Adventure Rank EXP.

Here maybe this will hit home better. Imagine in DMC you had to pay real money, or wait a couple years to use every tool in Dantes kit. And then multiply that by however many playable characters. Thats this game. You can say you enjoy it atm and still aknowledge this has wildly anti consumer leanings.
This comparison doesn't really make sense as it would be like DNC if you could beat the game, and didn't need all his tools. But some people wanted the game to be easier so they choose to spend money to get the "full experience".
Now, at some undetermined point in the future if they add....I dunno, story content behind a pay wall then I'll hold the L. But streamers been doing the Spiral Abyss (end game content) for months and most of them didn't spend a dime. Some blew a ridiculous amount of money because again....they want the "full experience" of the game.
Oh and I meant to comment earlier....when you said 3* weapons are useless. This is an oversimplification as a 4-5 Rank 3* actually has damn near double the damage of a base 4*. So you could run with 3* stuff well into the end game, until you get a couple 4*.
And hell, they gave away 4* weapons before the game even came out. I've gotten multiple 4* characters and the game came out yesterday. 4* are not the unicorn you're making them out to be. The 5* are, though.
