Just a point of order.

He didn't survive. He benefited from cheating. He used that to positively reinforce his image as a world champion.

Did you hear his radio when Lewis had put nearly 20 secs into him on that final race before the cheating? He was crushed.
nikka was literally crying on the radio. "What do I do?!" :damn:

Nope. He absolutely survived. A driver like Vettel who routinely crumbled at key moments, who be an example of a driver that didn't. Regardless of the outcome, your example is due to the difference between the two cars, not a failing of driver mental facilities.

I was wondering if there was an ad hominem attack waiting in your back pocket. Have no actual rebuttal to anything I said, but made it a point to label me a 'fan boy'. Enjoy your evening.
What rebuttal should I have to an opinion that's absolutely false?

2021 was probably one of the greatest battles we've ever seen in F1. Denying it was a battle of two drivers is denying reality.

I don't understand why that is so hard to understand.

But Max gets the benefit of the doubt while Lewis got crucified for Silverstone, to this day.

@MoneyTron to pretend like he survived while excluding the way he drove towards the end of the championship, along with the literal farce thay was enginneered to allow him to win, is disingenuous. He was falling apart.

Crucified by who? Verstappen stans? Why do we care what they think?

And no its not disingenuous at all. If Hamilton had won in AD, my opinion on Verstappen wouldn't change. This isn't about the end result. You all are stuck on one race when its almost irrelevant to my argument. If AD went the way it was supposed to, I'd still consider Hamilton the GOAT, and I'd still call Verstappen a generational talent on his way to being in the top drivers of all-time conversation.

EDIT: If Verstappen lost in AD, he'd still be headed for 50+ wins/100 podiums and 2 championships by the end of this season. By the end of 2024 he'll likely be 3rd all-time in wins at age 26. Sorry brehs, you can't deny those numbers.

I am stuck one one race.

I didn't question Verstappens talent.

I spoke to what you said about him mentally withstanding Lewis's onslaught.

That one race made a massive difference to what he withstood mentally.

We have no idea how things would be if he was just a one title world champion

Surviving doesn't mean perfection. It means not losing grip of the end goal ie Vettel in 2017 and 2018. Max stayed in the battle from start to finish. We saw Lewis make unusual mistakes as well. That doesn't mean he was mentally weak. No driver in the current field would've performed as well in the same position against Lewis outside of possibly Alonso, who had to do the same against Schumacher. So yeah, I think he withstood the pressure pretty damn well.

@jj23 Watched the session and that was just outright pace on the Hards. He was consistently purple in S1, boxed to go plus 2 on the front wing, then went faster again. The run on Softs was a little disappointing but they probably aren't a good race tire. The sprint might not be worth a damn but Sunday might be a good day.
