He was trying to let Hamilton past without crashing into him while Verstappen had slipstream and for some reason, was able to brake ultra late without missing the corner:yeshrug:
Mercedes has thrown away a ton of points this season, from botched pitstops to terrible strategy and even Hamilton himself making unnecessary mistakes. If they lose the title this season, there are a lot of people who should be blamed before looking at Bottas.
What I mentioned yesterday, though, was that there was a point after that getaway that he would have been able to recognize Lewis was drawing even with him and that there was no reason to move over to slipstream him. From then on it was a matter of making that car as wide as possible and getting back on line. Bottas isn't to blame for the championship situation, but there's more he could have done yesterday. Mercedes has dropped the ball on strategy after several years of banking on a fast car and a GOAT to make it work. Lewis has made mistakes throughout the year.

Yes he could have, but it was a start, things happen ultra fast, the situation is very chaotic and you can cause a huge crash in the blink of an eye. Remember when Verstappen took out both Vettel and Kimi as well as himself? This could have easily been a repeat of that situation :yeshrug:
Could Bottas have defended harder? Probably. Is he to blame for Mercedes and Hamiltons standing in the points or would their situation look better if they had switched him with Russel? I don't think so. Strategy and operations have been looking abysmal since their head strategist went on maternity leave and I think that is their main issue, not the second driver. Hamilton won the start in Austin and they still lost.

Lol. Hamilton was a brake magic away from still leading the championship.
Also not being torpedoed by Verstappen

The titles a wrap for Lewis. It’ll be interesting to see how he handles Max’s coronation: gracious acquiescence or wait till next year fukk bwoy.
