Verstappen has had 4 DNF's this year. if he had scored at par in some of those he would already have more points than Bottas.
I actually want him to end the season in 2nd place.

The "b-b-b-but its the car" theory out there is mute already especially as Bottas is stinking up the joint every week but this is a brilliant opportunity for those folk to ramp up their agenda this weekend.
Worst Case scenario: Vandoorne wins.
Best Case scenario: Max wins. One of hte Mercs doesnt even get a podium.
As crazy as it sounds, Max winning this race without Lewis there makes Lewis looks so much better

Bottas has been unlucky himself. His issues just didn't lead to DNFs.

He still gained points though.
As a rough measure, if you turn those extra 3 DNF's into the average of Bottas' "problem" races ((11th + 5th + 14th + 8th) / 4) = 2 additional 9th's and 10th's == 6 points more. Which is 195 i.e. 6 points behind Bottas. In F1 it is the spread of the points more than avgs so if we give Max what Bottas got in his best three problem finishes (5th, 8th and 11th) Max gets an additional 14 points which would put him ahead of Bottas today.
When Max DNF'd in AUT and ITA Lewis came 4th and then in the latter race both Mercs scored low meaning that Max's chances of scoring quite a bit above par were greater.
Yeah all very rough and with loads of holes
but hopefully Max passes Bottas by the end of the season to put the matter to rest.

This will be fascinating.
Bottas thought he had a quiet weekend sowed up. Now he has to deal with the young upstart, and be the Team Leader this weekend.
Everyone wants to be Lewis Hamilton until they get to be Lewis Hamilton. That pressure ain't easy.
Knowing this guy he would probably put on a quali masterclass then ruin it all with a botched start like he always does.
This is going to be a battle between 2 quali merchants with poor race craft, imo Verstappen might actually win this.
