Yeah it's a little off. But anyone in Britain knows how football mad Newcastle is so it's easy to mistakingly see that passion as having a lot of trophies behind it

Not really an L. Tite had to save face after removing Douglas Costa from the squad in the past for being suspended, but keeping Neymar on the squad when he was suspended. A lot of people were pissed about that double standard, and thought it was wrong Neymar was on the team in the first place. To keep him in the Captain’s role would have been an unnecessary distraction.
And Dani Alves is one of his best friends. I wouldn’t be shocked if Neymar had input on making him the captain.
