It's hard to question any decision by Low. Sane is more talented than Brandt, but Brandt played better for the NT than Sane. Also plays multiple positions.

Germany has preferred team cohesion over individual talent. I still think having Sane play for them gives them an option of pace especially in the latter stages of the tournament when players start fading.

Some merit to it as Yaya and Eto'o were gone after Peps first season at Barca.

But I think it's more to do with Pep cannot deal with big personalities and people who will challenge him (Ibra). And we know Eto'o never hold his tongue, reason why he turned down going back to Real Madrid in the first place and joined Barca instead.
