I mean, if you go back in time and grab an 8 year old Pele and train him with modern tactics and develop him physically with the advancements we've made maybe he's still up there.

Swings n roundabouts innit.
maybe ... but imagine plucking him from his era and placing him against Mou's Inter UCL winning team:russ:

this is why calling Pele the goat is :gucci:
Teams back then didnt know how to defend and some of them were playing with 5 strikers and 2 defenders.
Today even amateur teams like San marino, malta and leichtenstein, know some basic defending. they're not getting battered 6-0 every game like they did 10-15 years ago.
PPl dont realise how much this game has evolved
Comparing GOATs from different eras is always a waste of time to be honest. Sports are meant to evolve :manny:

Put Phil Jones in that era and we'd be here talking about him like he's Beckenbauer.

you are using that which cannot easily analysed (the game in general) to support your point.

just consider basic skills. when the ball is not in motion.

there is no player in the entire 2022 world cup who can strike a dead ball like zico, socrates and 'em.

see no BS "we cannot compare eras" to muddy the waters.

not one player in this world cup in going to put a free kick in the corner like they used to do all of the time.

phil jones can hardly control a ball, cannot pass, cross and has poor timing so no he fails the test.

meanwhile (socrates) could do all of that in games and out of games with dead balls.

so stop it
