So damn good. Sanjuro is great as well.

It's crazy to see how much of an "influence" Yojimbo had on Leone's "A Fistful Of Dollars"....and by "influence" I mean "a blueprint followed to exact specifications" :dead:
Yea Yojimbo was awesome. there's tons of kurosawa's on hulu so i added em all to my queue. I'm gonna peep em all even the ones not in the top 250.

His OBVIOUS influence on other directors is astounding.

I'm picking up 'Hidden Fortress' today, and I've read it had a significant influence on George Lucas and Star Wars....so I'm looking forward to that

do you do a lot of blind buys?

I usually only buy something after I've seen it

A decent amount. I'll blind buy films mostly from my favorite directors.

I blind bought Lifeboat and Foreign Correspondent from Hitchcock...Stalag 17 from Billy Wilder...most of Kurosawa's CC releases....

I'd say 40% of my Criterion purchases were blind buys. I've only been disappointed with a couple of them (Medium Cool and The Magician come to mind...not bad, just probably won't watch again)

Brehs, I've already spent over $100 on this B&N sale and will probably spend another $50. So far I've gotten the America Lost and Found set, Fantastic Mr. Fox, George Washington and The Great Beauty. And I'll probably at least get the Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, The Game and 12 Angry Men, if not more.
I'm equally :smugdraper: and :sadcam:

since I exported my 800+ dvd collection a couple years back, it's been hard as fukk to stick to only buying blu...but it's worth the resistance (and a great reason not to slice that cheddar)...lynch and welles are the only two dudes I'll consider buying dvds of (what's up mr arkadin and f for fake) because the relative scarcity of each filmmaker's films being released on blu, but both dudes' catalogs seem to be on the uptick

went ahead and bought scanners with a gift card I had, trying to hold off on some more until I find one of those 15-20% coups. the no-coupon-on-preorders has been struggle city for me, too.

plan to get eraserhead (take advantage of the free shipping before cancelling membership), naked lunch, the complete jean vigo, and probably either tess or throne of blood

I'm not sure what's on there, but my three favorite are Inland Empire, Fire Walk With Me and Mulholland Dr., but incidentally those are two or three of his least accessible films

if you liked Blue Velvet (which I assume you did since you're asking "what next") you could try his next feature, Wild at Heart, although I find that to be one of his lesser films. it did win the Palme, tho

I would recommend though trying eraserhead followed by mulholland dr, and if you're into those I would say dive the fukk in man

The Hidden Fortress is awesome. Probably the most "accessible" samurai film I've seen.
