Nighthawk was doomed the second Marvel face-planted on the Squadron book. Unless you were reading the JMS Squadron Supreme 10+ years ago, you had no idea who NH was, and rarely do you just throw a book out to the sharks with a new or obscure character and expect it to succeed without putting certain contingencies in place. That's what
support actually is. And the ANAD Squadron book wasn't supported on that level to where Nighthawk or Hyperion ever had a chance to stay afloat.
Remember Avengers #0? SS was supposed to be the introduction of Nighthawk to the MU, and they made it seem like the team was going to be a big deal. But nearly a year later and they haven't been a part of anything. Literally, nothing. Ultimates aint worried about them. Pleasant Hill, nothing. Civil War II, nothing. Has anyone in the MU even acknowledged that Namor was killed? Funeral? "Mourning the Fallen" issue? The UAvengers guest appeared in the SS book, but that's just b/c its the same writer.
So basically the big intro of Nighthawk to the MU in the months leading to his solo debut consisted of no relevance to the larger MU sandbox and a terrible first 2 arcs that went away from the initial premise of the team. All this, marinated in completely and utterly shytty artwork. A month or two before Nighthawk's solo ever came out, I knew it was screwed, word to
@Bigbigguy . Hyperion too. Bc at that point Squadron was dead in the water with no momentum or spotlight for any of the characters in the greater MU.
