They should've known that DC would have an issue with them showing Batman doing an explicit sex act. They could've probably gotten away with hinting at it but DC does not play with sullying the image of Batman and Superman.

I think it is just a one-shot that's part of the Hellfire Gala event.

The Darkhold event series is going to be running concurrently with the Death of Dr. Strange event series which seems like an odd thing to do.
I'm sure with a little tweaking they could have made the Darkhold stuff fit in as a spin-off from the Death of Strange story after it concluded.
