Dope. I'll be in Rome next week.

Enjoy, its nice - weather will be great too

Where you flying into, if its FCO then I would suggest getting a Terravision coach shuttle its only 9 euros for a return trip. Goes from the airport to Rome Terminal - journey is about 30 mins. Dunno about the other airport , but assume very similar - Airport Transfers: no booking fee, book now | Terravision

Saves paying for cab or the train

Also due to the roads and traffic over there, Uber takes some time to get to you. Lots of 1 way streets, so bear that in mind when or if you book 1.

Def would advise to book tours as you can skip the queues, I done Colosseum and Vatican city - you dont wanna be standing hours in the heat in the queue. This company is good - Things to Do, Tickets, Tours & Attractions | 2019 | Viator has various options.

Like I have said before, I need to make more use of being in Europe as so close living in London - keep going states or Toronto lol. I had a ton of air miles with BA so booked a quick trip to Rome for the weekend.

Great city, lots of history, food and wine of course the best.

Sistine chapel is amazing, TV doesn't do it justice, still amazes me the level of detail in the art work during the Renaissance period

My circle isn't large but of the few people I rock with I've started to notice a bit of a difference between those who travel and those who don't. I have family/friends who are great nice people with the best intentions..but it seems like those who haven't really traveled seem to have a more limited view of the world and in some cases of life in general. Like as time goes on I'm finding I can't have certain conversations with the non-traveling crowd.I'm not trying to say one crowd is better than the other per se but being someone who enjoys traveling, it seems like the non-travelers don't share certain fundamental values I have. Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Do any of you have Global Entry?
I don’t but I’ve been meaning to sign up. I only have TSA for the US, fast track for UK and Germany but doing Global Entry would fast track me in Australia as well and probably a few other countries like Canada. I’ve been lucky as of recently because most of my flights have been booked where I don’t go thru any major airports for US customs. It’s either a country with an office there or two non major airports that do occasional out of country flights

Like, instead of flying directly from Europe to a US major airport like JFK or Dulles, you can fly thru Dublin and hit small customs check point that’s not frequented like other places

I have it, but it has never been super useful. I don't live in a major city so I gotta re-check my luggage. Both times I have used it, my wait for my luggage made it super pointless to "skip" the line.

I live in the DC area and we have 3 major airports here.

How long does it usually take? What exactly happens anyway?

How long does it take to get approved or like how long do you wait in line? Usually I see no line for the global entry on flights I’ve taken. It’s usually only about 5-10 people that’ll use one of the kiosks.

It’s useful if you travel internationally on a monthly basis, or maybe even if you do those short international flights on a weekly basis, like those NYC to London or Iceland, regional international flights that you might frequent.

Thanks but I was referring to U.S. Customs in general. How long does it take to get through it. It's only when you're returning to the United States right?

I have used it at Houston Inter. , Atlanta Inter., and Austin (I don't know their actual names).

When you get off the flight, you go through customs. They have these little kiosks where you can scan your app. If you don't do this step on the plane or before your departure, it's fine because you can do it when standing there. You take a selfie and answer some questions about declaring goods. Scan your barcode. Go to the gate. ( The line is normally super short ). Get asked some questions by the officer. Then go to reclaim your bags.

The wait for my bags made it pointless to skip the line. Even though I got through customs in 5-10 minutes. My bag took 20-30.

I love this thread, makes me far more comfortable in Solo travel cause people definitely try and shame you about it :snoop:

Don't let them do it.

I'm a woman, so I get why folks are a bit precautious, but.... traveling with folks can be annoying if they wanna do clique stuff or visit tourist traps. Also when you are alone, you can spend as much time on things as you like. When I traveled with my mom, we spent around 2-3 hours in the Dubai Sephora because it was so large and the workers are so friendly.
