Not to me. Original intent counts for a whole lot more. Especially if the references are still there. So if there’s a reference in part 5 or even freddys dead, then it still counts. Craven is smart enough to sow seeds in part 1 even if he softened the character. He’s still going to throw stuff in there to make you question or wonder. The scene with Nancy and her mom has enough innuendo where it can be inferred

Also according to some film CSI types, and I’d have to check this to be sure, there’s a blink and you’ll miss it newspaper headline in part 5 that says he’s a child molester. And I’m sure that flashback in freddys dead hints at some shyt.
