So I’ve never seen the craft. Wasn’t my thing when I was 10 lol. But, reading this shyt actually made me tear up and get sad and angry. Rachel True, the black actress from the craft, talks about not being invited to conventions for reunions and the direct and indirect racism she’s dealt with when it comes to the craft. Or even how mtv wouldn’t let her present an award with her costars. fukked up shyt.

Rachel true, the black actress from it (and she’s in the shudder doc next month) has a nice thread talking about the direct and indirect racism she’s dealt with over the years while being excluded from reunions and conventions for the movie. Or even how mtv didn’t ask her to present at the VMAs or movie awards that year with her costars and she had to sit in the audience.

I read True's thread on Twitter about this. It is pretty fukked up and speaks to there being an underlying issue of racial exclusion when it comes to the horror fandom community.

Yeah and it’s not cool. At all. It’s there in plenty of fandoms. We’ve seen it with Star Wars, Star Trek, and even comic books. It’s why there definitely needs to be more and better representation in horror.

A guy on 1428 elm wrote something trying to disprove the theory of black characters and women being treated like second class citizens in horror movies. And while I appreciate what he was trying to do, he completely missed the point in the examples he chose. Like he actually brought up the guy who saves sally in Texas chain saw :russ:

Breh, no one knows who that guy is. Yes he didn’t “die” first but he’s also not a character in the movie. No name. He’s a guy who drives a truck. There aren’t many Duane Jones’

Whattt??! They intentionally excluded her from the events. I have to check out what she said. Rachel True was the only reason that movie was on the radar for me, bc she was the female back character in a 'coming of age' type horror movie. It wasn't horror imo, more mystery but that's irrelevant bc to hear this is disheartening.

Yeah read her thread. She didn’t name names but one of the convention hosts got in their feelings and said she wouldn’t be invited now because what she said was “uncalled for” :francis: which is absolute bullshyt

"After lamenting “a Hollywood lifetime of sucking up racist aggressions,” she recalled an MTV awards show where the other three actresses presented an award while she sat in the audience, uninvited."

:what:

Yeah. Cattle truck driver is definitely a trailblazer in horror for black roles. :russ:

And that’s no diss to him or tobe. At all. But some guy using that in his thesis is faulty
Top 3 black character's in horror are: Peter from Dawn of the Living Dead, Childs from The Thing and Cattle Truck Driver from Texas Chainsaw Massacre

:ohhh:This should be fun, excited for this- should be interesting to see how they plan this out and the plotline. Syfy is expanding it's interest. Because they've always had that horror and syfy mesh marketability, makes sense - with Wynona Earp, 12 Monkeys, Van Helsing, Znation, Blood Drive etc
(that was also probably the reason they axed Channel Zero to make room for "Chucky")

Yeah I can see channel zero being moved to the side for chucky since the creator is working on this too. Makes perfect sense. And no diss to channel zero because I love it to death, but chucky is the bigger property and will get more attention:manny: from a business standpoint, shyt makes all the sense in the world.

Now if they ever brought back blood drive:wow: of course they won’t but still

"Chucky gon' work it out!
