Man I've never seen this at all. how long did it last?
Only a few years. I don't remember if this came right before or right after Tales From the Darkside (eeriest intro to a show ... ever). There was also a Friday the 13th show around that time (no Jason)

New Halloween was dope. What didn’t you like about it
How was it dope? I really found it to be a mediocre take on H20. There’s literally no reason to take away the brother sister dynamic and zero reason to have had him in a insane I
Asylum all this time

The tracking shot scene through haddonfield doesn’t happen if they’re brother and sister. The stuff with Vicky and the kid doesn’t happen if they’re brother and sister.

Michael was brought to Laurie in the end. He wasn’t on his way to her.

There’s a theme there of not dealing with your trauma in a great way and it coming back to bite you in the ass. But it also doesn’t care about you when it does. Michael wasn’t worried about Laurie, she was worried about him. For 40 years she thought about him and what to do with him but for him it was just another day. So yes all of that subtext and two of the best scenes in the movie don’t happen if Michael is still her brother because he would’ve made a beeline for her. He didn’t. If not for the third act twist they probably would’ve never gotten together.

In the other movies, every person he killed was in his way to get to Laurie or Jamie. It was like him playing MK and moving up the mountain to get to the final boss. No such issue here.

And other than that, it was dope because it made Michael into a force again. He was scary again. He wasn’t a joke. There’s a style and flair to this movie that the previous ones haven’t had. Plus the score and the actual scares working for me, makes it dope.

I can’t tell you that a horror movie should’ve been scary to you because that’s asinine and I’d make a fool of myself lol but all I can do is tell you that it was effective for me in the scare department and the tone.

Checked out the series You on Netflix. Main character is a combo of Dexter and Elliot from Mr. Robot thrown into a NYC Millennial dating sitcom. It's got a lot of "the identity we show the world" stuff to it and is more dark comedy that's built on top of a typical horror motif; but it's good imo. I legitimately laughed at some points; the victims are suitably hateable and they do a great job with the transformation aspects of having a mentally unstable main character.

I think it was a cool outside the box approach and perspective applied to some typical horror tropes. In that way, it keys on an element that made me appreciate Final Girls and You Might Be a Killer although it's a very different show and experience.

:ohhh: I thought it was some type of rom-com that I wasn't in the mood for at first glance but now ill see what it's really about.

I watched the first season of Dexter but then got interested in another show, so that got back burnered. I've only seen the first 2 eps of season 1 of Mr. Robot so far, was too distracted to get into it, but at least I know the premise of both to watch from your perspective.

Anyone checking out this Channel Zero: Season 3 , titled Butchers Block on syfy? @morris , I remember you posted some image of teeth face from season 1 in here
I didn't like Butcher's Block as much as I was hoping I would from the preview material I saw. The most recent series, Dream Door, was really good.
If I was ranking the Channel Zero seasons it would be:

No-End House
Dream Door
Butcher's Block
Candle Cove

I was the same way when I started it, but a friend of mine kept gassing it so I wound up giving it a shot and being really pleasantly surprised. The big difference I see from this one and Dexter/Mr. Robot is that those two shows really tried to make Elliot and Dexter protagonists whereas "You" subverts that by typically following up sympathetic moments with some legit psycho moves so that any time you start to relate with or feel for Joe (the main character), you get pulled right back into realizing how dangerous dude really is.

I didn't even realize there was a third season. Thought Candle Cove was trash but the tooth fairy design was great and loved No-End House. I'ma go back in and peep Dream Door when I get a chance, need something to start binging on my down time anyway.

Well, folks... with the exception of Climax (is it actually horror?) and a couple indie releases (Piercing and Possum both look promising) I think I had the horror year covered. And what a disappointment it was. The best straight horror to me this year was "The Witch in the Window"....welp. share your rankings!

All the stuff I saw in 2018
