I remember in, I think, 1999 renting that movie with two friends, and watching it at one's house, late at night, and while we were entertained, we truly thought it would be terrifying, and it fell short on that. I think in it's time, it was, and remains a classic horror movie. But, the very structure of demonic possession movies, to me, has never been scariest.

Yeah i grew up thinking that movie was taboo, like it was evil or some shyt.

Summer of 84:

I liked a lot about this movie, despite that it is a barely concealed redo of "Disturbia", without that movie's status as being the first teenage "Rear Window". The score was very dope, and it moved quickly enough to not see all the flaws. That said, the writing of the kids came across very generic and formulaic, the characters couldn't break out of the thinness of the writing. The plot, while using a lot of window dressing is essentially never a real mystery, so the movie doesn't quite work as coming of age horror/suspense. The ending is one of the stronger points, despite the villain chewing the scenery in increasingly implausible circumstances, in a scene that reminded me of a similar character in the dreadful "Striking Distance" 1993. In summary, I am a fan of serial killer next door/coming of age, and this was enjoyable, though incredibly flawed.

I'M STILL TRIPPIN OFF HOW @Dominic Brehetto WAS BANNED...HE USED TO PULL THAT SAME "I GOT NO MORALS" SHIIT ON DUBCC TENFOLD. HIS NAME ON THERE WAS EVEN "SOULLESS" AT ONE POINT LOL.

ANYWAYS, JUS GOT BACK FROM THE NEW HALLOWEEN N THAT SHIIT WAS ALRIGHT....THE KILLS WERE DOPE, AND THE STORY WAS DECENT. I LIKE HOW THEY USED A LOT OF ELEMENTS FROM THE ORIGINAL. I THOUGHT THE LOOMIS UNDERSTUDY HEEL TURN WAS STRANGE, BUT I SEE WHAT THEY WERE TRYNA DO THERE.

it is. that movie is cursed. there were a number of occurrences and incidents pre- post- production and during the making of that movie. Coincidences happen.. but from what I read about it, this movie had a demonic energy that overshadowed the cast and crew; people associated with it. Poltergiest and Amityville Horror, as well.

Finally watched train to Busan today.

cried like a bytch:mjcry:
That movie was more engaging than I thought it would be. Def in my top 5 for this year, so far. The elements of suspense, plot development, psychological meshed for me. Not the typical zombie movie experience. Was not expecting that ending.

Associated with the occult- this is a very brief summary
Is THE EXORCIST Cursed? Seven Reasons Why Some Think the Film is Haunted
The Curse of The Exorcist
7 of the Strangest and Unexplainable Film Curses

"Ellen Burstyn claimed that nine people were killed during the making of the film. Actor Jack MacGowran, who played Burke Dennings, died from a heart attack related to a case of the flu shortly after completing finishing his work on set. Vasiliki Maliaros, whose only role was in The Exorcist, also died during post-production from “natural causes” at age 89. Actor Jason Miller’s toddler son was struck by a motorbike and killed during filming. Other deaths included Linda Blair’s grandfather, a night watchman, a special effects expert, and a cameraman’s newborn baby.

Mercedes McCambridge, the voice actress who played the demon that spoke through Regan, experienced a real-life horror movie of her own. In 1987, her son killed his wife and children, before turning the gun on himself.

An extra in the film, Paul Bateson, was a real life X-ray technician at NYU Medical Center where a scene was filmed, and played the same role as an extra. In 1979, Bateson was found guilty of the murder of a film critic Addison Verrill, whom he stabbed in the heart, and suspected of killing at least six other men and disposing of their bodies in plastic bags found washed up on the Hudson River. Bateson admitted to several killings. He killed one man by crushing his skull with a metal skillet.

Reports from the crew recall seeing objects move about on their own, most notably a telephone used to communicate on set that rose from the receiver and fell multiple times. Due to eerily events and feelings all around, Director William Friedkin asked religious advisor Reverend Thomas Bermingham to come on set and perform a real-life exorcism"

Okay going to play devils advocate. No pun intended lol.

Do you believe all that? And the reason I ask is because William castle produced this movie. Castle was a well known hustler, making people sign waivers before seeing his movies promising not to sue if they suffered a heart attack or needed medical attention etc. also the same guy who installed buzzers in seats to shock audiences during his movies.

So I’m not saying all that is bullshyt; it very well may not be. But what I am saying is I wouldn’t put it pass him to use all of that as just another way to sell the movie. This is the same movie the studio ensured had ambulances outside theaters “just in case”

For various reasons, I actually do believe there was a coorelation between those incidents and the movie. Not that I have a fully rational explanation but just off the strength of what I read, my belief system about demonic possession and occult practices; the concept of demonic energy. I'm not saying there is a direct concrete cause and effect but I do think there is certain "activity" that occurs when you conjure (pun intended lol) knowingly or unknowingly negative energy and in doing so, that has the ability to set off a chain events. Not that I'm knowledgeable or heavy into spiritualism, or obsessive about it, but it's in the realm of possibilities that those incidents were not random or coincidental. Not everything can be explained away by science or circumstances.

I do see where you're coming from with the marketing aspects, like hyping things up to make people gain interest or for curiosity. By the producer being a hustler - anything goes mentality, no boundaries when it comes to promotion and profit- he may have made a figurative 'deal with the devil' . In this case, I do think that whatever the basis or reason for this film, manifested itself in different ways that some people had a hyper sensitive reaction about. Also, In saying that -if a person is a susceptible to demonic energy that they may not have been exposed to before, it can open a portal. With this movie, it's almost like a side affect for the cast/crew.
