I fell asleep watching Sinister

Music alone would've kept me awake

Been watching Joe Bob's marathon all night/all day. He hasn't shown anything that's not on Shudder (of course) but dude's commentary is so insightful and funny. Also had me watching stuff on here that I would've never watched or been meaning to watch and took forever to get to. I think it's wrapping up now so he's ending with Hellraiser.

Watched the Friday the 13th remake last night. It was good, especially considering how wrong jamming 1-3 all into one movie could’ve gone, but it doesn’t feel like a Friday The 13th movie without the music.

Gonna put some sour cream under her chin for this violation
To this day I still am bothered by the fact that Sam from Supernatural looked like he should have been whooping Jason's ass all over Camp Crystal Lake.
That, Jason holding a woman hostage for weeks and the fact that someone built mine shafts next to a freaking lake are all things that annoyed me about the reboot.

Saw a couple on netflix recently, some short thoughts :

The Ritual - 2/5
There was some intrigue in the beginning, but it mostly felt pointless at the end. What exactly did the main character learn? What were we supposed to take away from all this given everything that happened in the beginning of the movie? I don't understand why the store scene was that necessary other than to explain why they went on a trip. The monster is more interesting before it's shown (Of course). The "cultist" at the end are laughable, almost as bad as the cultist in....

The Void - 1/5
The story is too meandering. The performances are bad (That student-nurse is GOD AWFUL). The monster stuff has been done before. I think that they are trying to draw upon Stuart Gordon but they lack his sense of humor (And eye for visuals....and use of theme....and directing of actors...and...you get the idea). Not my cup of tea.

A Dark Song - 4/5
This was wonderful. I've not seen this take on the occult before. Not super detailed, but they seemed to really try to build an internal mythology on their seances and what have you and I appreciated that. Enjoyed both leads quite a bit. Very striking ending. I liked the main characters arc. One of those movies that leaves you wanting to explore the whole universe it's in...I want to go and meet some of these other sorcerers and see "the architecture" for myself....

I'd definitely check out A Dark Song.

One of the most low key quality horror comedies I've peeped. Bubba Ho Tep and this joint Freaks of Nature (threw an IMDB link below) are two that I never hear mentioned but I really enjoyed.

Freaks of Nature (2015) - IMDb
