Damn, the last one felt like "finally, a step in the right direction" and then producers start beefing and kill the project.

I do think the Saw concept could do with a total reset. Tobin Bell isn't getting any younger, and he's been carrying the franchise like a prime Doug Bradley. A reboot could actually give them a new direction to go in...give us a cult of Jigsaw bingeable series where the creators can try some new things.

Saw X would be a banger note to leave off on for Tobin, if this really is it for him. I like the reset idea and honestly, it feels inevitable.

Lionsgate is having a tough ass time tho. This was lining up to be one of the few upcoming films from them with commercial potential.

Borderline is already 🏴‍☠️
It's batshyt crazy, but they went for it..and some of the tense moments really hit (it's too bad that it went for comedy more often than tension).
Jack Nicholson's son plays the lead psycho, and he does a damned good job (hell of a job closing out in particular). But the best scene of the movie is with Samara Weaving and Alba Baptista. Samara Weaving's case for Scream Queen Mount Rushmore is building.

So, I have a pretty firm favorite three horror movies so far this year. Companion at the top, Stephen King's The Monkey next, and then Borderline is a firm number three that I may have to rewatch in case I want to place it higher.

A bodyguard protects a pop superstar and her athlete boyfriend from a determined stalker in 1990s Los Angeles.
Quick Disclaimer: The only thing 90's about this movie is that the athlete BF is semi-Dennis Rodman coded, and it feels like that was only to set up one gag...

Second Disclaimer: This trailer gives away too much from literally the opening scene, but also manages to completely butcher the actual tone of the movie. So it's showing you too much, while also misleading you all at once...

But despite my disclaimers...I really liked this movie. It's got some major flaws, but the bright spots make up for the weaknesses. The performances are all fantastic with Samara Weaving, Ray Nicholson, and Alba Baptista leading the way. Baptista in particular steals the show in every scene she gets. The kills and attacks are all shot really well; often taking things from goofy and slapstick to seriously tense just by changing the music and raising the stakes.

It's a flaw and a strength that this movie takes comedic breaks. I don't think the jokes land as often as they're awkward. But they lull you into a false sense of security before some visceral violence kicks you back into concern. That helps set up some seriously tense moments, and the tension is shot REALLY well. I'd love for this same team to make a movie that's pure horror without giving viewers breaks to laugh.

The plot itself is simple enough. Imagine the Strangers is they were clumsy and goofy, but just as dangerous. It requires some convenient stupidity from characters, but never to the extreme that it breaks immersion. The great acting helps to sell everything.

The creators really threw everything at the wall. They go for it, and the actors do the same. The only part that completely lost me was an impromptu singing moment, but it gets a pass because it's immediately follow by an action sequence that might be my favorite scene in any movie so far this year.

So, this is easily one of my favorite watches so far this year. I'll definitely rewatch it, and I think it could even play as a nice double-feature next to Ready or Not (which is superior, but tonally not too far off from this).

7.3 out of 10...if the jokes and gags landed better, this would be right next to Companion on my list of favorites. If it had leaned more into the horror and less into the jokes, it coulda been my outright favorite. But even with its flaws, it's entertaining chaos.

One last thought: Do yall remember the late 70's/early 80's horror movie where a trio of psychopaths break out of an asylum and wreak havoc on a neighborhood? Dr. Loomis is one of the starring roles. This premise and some of the early bits made me think of it.

One more horror review for those looking for new stuff. I also peeped the new joint on ScreamBox, Uncontained, and it's alright. This one doesn't have my enthusiasm like Borderline, but it has some cool ideas.

A mysterious drifter struggles to protect an abandoned boy and his little sister from an infection that turns people into a feral-like state.

In this case, the trailer gives you nothing...I might have skipped the movies based on this tbh.

So, the plot builds off well-known tropes. It's a dystopian time where a 24-style illness has left everything a mess. We start with a boy and girl who are left on their own but in a very well-equipped house. Things happen, they connect with a drifter who keeps an eye on them, and we learn more about the world through everyone trying to survive.

The cool thing is that the movie tries something a little new with the virus, and the characters all get more likeable they spend more time with each other and let their guards down. This is a fairly interesting world, but it uses a lot of exposition to get that across. It's better when the movie shows instead of telling, but it usually does both instead.

A couple of things drag the movie down. First, it's hard to tell how much time is passing which can hurt during a "we're fighting to survive" style story. Second, they establish a couple of "threats" but they're never all that threatening. So, the tension is cut in half for a lot of the run time.

That said, it's a fitting addition to the dystopian genre. It tweaks the formula a bit, and it's not complete trash or a cash grab. There are ideas and attempts to make the most out of the resources they had. Unfortunately, the acting is pretty weak and that takes it down a notch.

5 out of 10...if you've got nothing to watch, give it a shot to pass the time and support a Screambox horror.

Its a great doc
very detailed and to the point on the resident evil history and what they wanted for flick.

its a damn shame George was dropped from this
his 2 tv spots were better than the actual movies.

That basura that came out from Paul Anderson ain't even worth revisiting

Forbidden Planet (1982)

Skinemax sci fi flick- lots of nudity
decent kill FX - little schlocky - but its an 80's low budget flick
Basically a loner and his robot partner gets a distress call from a small research colony
that was performing an experiment that goes awry - ( creating a food source that never depletes)
Fukkery ensues

&
Its Remake

Dead Space (1991)

Got that Bryan Cranston stimi

really the same plot, cut the nudity out, the robot is sarcastic & there is a different reason for the research lab- stopping a super virus and the experiment goes left

did not realize it was a remake until i started
i was like, "this is just like the last movie?" :dwillhuh: - they we together on my plex share so i just started watching

if you like low budget horror sci fi , they are both decent time wasters.
People die
lots of blood
i was satisfied

Top 60 horror flicks of all time

What intern did they get to pull this one ? :russ:
Top 20 is......interesting
Link below

Big Hitchcock fans, I see. The Birds, Sixth Sense, and Midsommar in top-10 all time? All reaches in my book. The It remake and A Quiet Place top-15!? The Host making top-30, probably just to get Bong Joon-Ho in there.

Yeah, this list is nuts. I know horror is subjective, but this feels like they just looked up a bunch of famous directors and threw them on there. How does the Menu get on a horror list at all, let alone top-50!? This has to be some trolling.
