Alright I lied. I was going to watch some 90s movies over the weekend, but ended up watching almost all 80s stuff instead.
Dark Angel (1990)
I watched Split Second with Rutger Hauer in September and enjoyed myself. This movie isn't as good but still some good cheesy fun. Rutger Hauer carries his movie where this one would be better with someone other than Dolph Lundgren. I love all the explosions and the gun the alien uses. I also like the premise that the bad guy is just an intergalactic drug dealer
Bad Dreams (1988)
I watched NoES on the 30th or 31st and wanted to see Dream Warriors but went with this instead. It has a lot of similarities with Dream Warriors. Jennifer Rubin is the lead actress, she also in Dream Warriors as the beautiful and bad punk girl that. You also got Bruce Abbott, Dan from Re-Animator, in here as well.
The villain is Jim Jones, not that Jim Jones
as a burn victim. The third act gets a bit fun, and I like the twist. It's alright.
Cat People (1982)
Malcolm McDowell was a crazy dude in his youth. I forgot when we talked about 28 Days Later I thought it was funny that the world went to shyt because they Clockwork Orange'd a monkey
I watched this because I saw the poster. It looks like a porno film and the movie kinda is. Its also another New Orleans horror movie. I had fun watching it. It's more like an Erotic Thriller with blood in it. Superman's girlfriend that plays his mom in Smallville was funny in this too.
Should I watch the OG version?
The lead actress doesn't get much hotter unless you watch...
Lifeforce (1985)
This movie is batshyt crazy and I love it. I didn't watch the Director's cut and I instantly want to rewatch it. This movie has it all and never holds back. I feel like Tobe Hooper was allowed to go balls to the walls and he goes balls to the walls here. This movie has that Gremlins 2 crazy feel to it. Where as Gremlins 2 is a dark Looney Tunes movie, this is a dark 50s sci-fi/horror. You can tell Tobe Hooper is a fan of those movies and added the 80s gore and nudity to it.
Not the least bit scary, but it has all the blood mayhem and breasts that people say 80s horror is filled with. Patrick Stewart looks like a British Larry David in this and 2 of his scenes made me laugh the hardest I have laughed this year.
There's some subtext in here that good that you wouldn't expect.
Invaders from Mars (1986)
This one was alright. I definitely watched it as a kid. It didn't hold up to me as an adult like Gremlins did. I also watched The Gate for the first time as an adult and had more fun watching that. I did like the design of the aliens and the leader reminded me of Krang from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
