‘Halloween’ (1978)

The plot is simple, but so effective. High re-watchability. Classic all the way through. It’s fun watching Michael operate here as a GOAT horror icon in the making getting his first baby steps in.

Caught this at the Alamo. Homie sitting next to me told me it was his first time ever seeing it, and I couldn’t help but feel envious. The reactions when Michael rose up in the background during the final act were priceless. Laurie tellin’ the kids how she “killed him” with bro walking right up the stairs. :mjlol:

Dr. Loomis scaring the kids off from the Myers house got the biggest laugh out of the crowd though. That, and the neighbors closing the blinds on a distressed Laurie on some :childplease:

- Laurie made it work, but had a doorbell staring her in the face to be rung when trying to wake up Tommy and Lindsey. Never uses it. :dahell:

- Myers finessing the whip at the start, GTA style, and taking off with it for miles and miles to Haddonfield will always be :dead:

Carpenter not only blessed the horror community with this gem, but composed a legendary score for it as well. Should be talked about more because it’s not everyday you see a director doing that.

Horror thread's 31 days of Halloween List - Day 31 - Halloween
Fifteen years after murdering his sister on Halloween night 1963, Michael Myers escapes from a mental hospital and returns to the small town of Haddonfield, Illinois, to kill again.

Halloween is the best proof that less is more in horror. Michael only kills a handful of people throughout the runtime, some of whom we barely see. But the movie is just so effective. The POV shots, Michael in view one moment and out of sight the next, and Laurie's seeming sense that something's off all build into the nighttime horror.

I don't think "subtle" is the right word, but Halloween just doesn't feel any need to force scares or show too much gore. The tension is always earned, and that makes the scary moments pay off. I think that's best exemplified with this real audience reaction...people are so INVESTED.

That's another October in the books. Props to everyone that watched along and read the different reviews we posted. This is always fun as hell. I saw some new joints (Junk really stands out, and I'm happy I crossed Henry off my "never seen" list), and got to revisit some joints I haven't watched in forever. It just reminds me that Horror is still my favorite genre by a wide margin.

The Coens next and perhaps even Nolan if those rumors are true (doubt it).

@RGM
fukk I thought I watched everything but still can't find Junk except the 360p vidoe on YouTube. Might bite the bullet tomorrow. I tried finding it again rn and I'm just getting a bunch of Junkies porn videos.
I dont know why its so difficult to find this movie.
Its not even on any of my plex shares or "those sites"

I am lucky enough to have freinds stationed/ or living in Japan that are horror fans too. I believe I have a dvd of this one of them sent to me packed up somewhere.

Plus its got a large cult following of underground horror fans.

Just odd for it to be so difficult to watch.

I’m just now finding out some of these movies I had on my wish list are on Tubii (Henry, Tenebrae, Sleepaway Camp). :mindblown:

Any movies worth watching on there?
They've got a bunch of classics. Plus, Tubi's originals are aggressively mid (or bad) but there are some interesting ones. They had one original that I really liked this year called Lowlifes. It made my hidden gems of 2024 list
