Horror thread's 31 days of Halloween List -

10. The Eyes of My Mother (Max)

This movie is almost perfect for what it wants to accomplish.
The lack of dialogue just adds to the sense of dread, and adds to the overall dreary mood of the film,
both actresses that portrayed the Main character pulls you into her world and you almost sympathize for her,
even though shes a straight up pycopath. she simply....is... who she is and all impulse.
Black and white was a marvelous choice for this movie.

the only thing that would have made this better is that at the end of the movie
she ditches the cops,
escapes with the boy,
settles in another state,
changes their names to Norma and Norman Bates
and buys a hotel

This is one of the best found footage movies ever imo.

gonna be next on my list. Not even gonna watch the trailer. I’m big on found footage horror. Loved blair witch original… enjoyed them blumhouse found footage on the haunted house….

borderlands sound familiar as hell so I think I might be too hyped if I watched it already. Oh well, teacup looks like a goodie

Really wanna see the Northern Lights one day. Are you in Canada?
Close enough. I’m on the New Hampshire/Maine border on the seacoast.

It was totally unexpected too. I went out for a late run that I almost put off for the morning and I’m glad I didn’t. Everyone was pulling over on the side of the road that was driving by. We were all stunned :wow:

Oh wow, I didn’t think you could see them in that area. I guess it’s visible throughout most of the upper states? Or is it one of those rare moments?

The Color Of Space was pretty good to me. Not incredible, but a fun watch. Good Cage performance.

Saw The Blair Witch Project in theaters in July 1999, with my two boys from my block. I was 13. Don't think we thought it was real, and it was a memorable time at the movies, but none of us were really that scared, of course at that age, is when you start overdoing it on the i'm not scared and generally just being a teenager. But I was always pretty reserved and into movies, and let them get into my head. It was fun.

Was much more scared when everyone fell asleep at some random night, and I finished The Exorcist by myself, or The Night Flier. Also, Salem's Lot alone in a huge dusty ass old house my Dad was living at, but wasn't his, the kind with boxes of papers and old 1970's decor. My Dad left me alone all day, which wasn't a big deal, but I watched that VHS of Salem's Lot, and it was so slow and dusty itself. Think I watched It like that too.

Watched I Still Know What You Did Last Summer last night, don't remember even wanting to see this in 1998, it was out of theaters quick. But I do remember the random R&B single Do U Wanna Ride, because I had that CD single and played it all the time lol and still do

Did NOT remember Mekhi Phifer in this acting a fool. Stuck with some pretty questionable lines and vaguely racial things that probably wouldn't be written into a script now. He's yelling at almost everyone the entire time. Very oversexed in every scene. And Brandy, she's pretty good. There's a point where the killer is stalking the island and he says something like "what we NEED to do is go find that bellboy that pool boy and get us some ping pong balls some paddles"

Do not remember Jack Black either. Anyway, bad slasher. Lots of gratuitous shots of Jennifer Hewitt.

This was close to a once in a lifetime event around here where pretty much anyone could step outside, look up and see it to some extent. Everyone in my family up here was able to see it. Very cool night

Horror thread's 31 days of Halloween List - Day 11 - Henry: Portrait of a Killer
Arriving in Chicago, Henry moves in with ex-con acquaintance Otis and starts schooling him in the ways of the serial killer.

I'd always heard that this was a controversial film, and I get it now. This movie hits a bunch of trigger warnings because its MC and his buddy Otis are textbook Sociopaths. They do awful things; we're riding along for most of it. But the visual depravity is broken up by some conversations between Henry and Otis, and Henry and Otis' Sister who doubles as the only sympathetic character in the story...but those conversations have plenty of nasty details in them, so the film is always applying pressure.

Anyway, the name of the game is REALISM. A lot of the movie feels grounded and gritty, which adds to the impact. Though, ironically, I think the most powerful moments are the kills we don't witness. I suppose the TV kill would be the most memorable for most, but it's the times the camera cuts or pans from a living person to the aftermath of Henry's actions that felt the heaviest.

The plot itself isn't complex, but I couldn't look away. Henry's always on a hair-trigger, so every time he's alone with someone you're stressing. Otis is his own kind of messed up too, so the stress is in never knowing wtf these dudes might try. It's a wild flick, and I appreciate it's portrayal of a sociopath without trying to make us understand his motivations beyond "this dude has a sick compulsion."

Also, this movie should get some credit for influencing Found-Footage. Because there's a section where Henry and Otis get a camera, which leads to one of the most messed up moments in the film.

The List:
1. Triangle (Prime)
2. The Loved Ones (Paramount+)
3. Salem's Lot 2024 (Max)
4. Be My Cat: A Film for Anne (Tubi)
5. VHS Beyond (Shudder)
6. *Choose your own* - Haunt (2019)
7. Don't Go in the House (Tubi, Youtube)

8. Cure (Internet Archive)
9. Masque of the Red Death(Pluto/Apple TV+)
10. The Eyes of My Mother (Max)
11. Henry Portait of a Serial Killer (Peacock)

12. Curse of Chucky (Netflix)
13. *Choose your own*
14. Junk (2000) (Youtube)
15. Detention (2011) (Tubi)
16. Sleepaway Camp (Peacock)
17. The Skeleton Key(Peacock/Apple TV+)
18. The Witch (Max)
19. Brain Damage 1988 (Tubi)
20. *Choose your own*
21. Audition (Tubi)
22. J. D.'s Revenge(Tubi/Brown Sugar/Prime)
23. Dead Silence (Tubi)
24. Sinister (Max)
25. World War Z (Paramount Plus)
26. The Burbs (Youtube)
27. *Choose your own*
28. 28 Days Later
29. Black Christmas (Tubi)
30. The Shining(MAX/Apple TV+)
31. John Carpenter's Halloween

Next up we have Curse of Chucky. Outside of Child's Play 1, I think it's got a VERY strong case for being the best movie in the Child's Play franchise. Curse and Cult of Chucky are a cut above the rest of the sequels in my book. So, I'm going to have fun revisiting this one.

About 1/3 of the way through The First Omen and I feel like absolutely nothing has happened so far :manny:
I watched Wolf Creek last night and can’t believe it took 2/3 of the movie to get interesting. Like close to the hour mark. :gucci:

It picked up, but the movie is okay, and it only gets the okay because of the last 35-40 minutes.

I just got done watching The Eyes of My Mother

Such a feel good movie:skip: I feel like i need to watch Back to the Future:mjcry:

But nah I understand where the main character is coming from.

Its tough losing someone that your close with, and spend most of your time with. She never got over her mother's death. Her father wasn't there in any type of emotional way. You need to do that especially for a kid.

I'm surprised she was able to grow into an adult that could care for and love a child.

The movie reminded me of The Woman. I'll rewatch that after Henry. Has anyone watched the sequel to The Woman, Darlin'? If I'm still watching flicks I might watch that or another

I haven't watched that movie since it came out. I remember my friend made me go see that at the movies and afterwards he was like, "I'm sorry breh:francis:"

Maybe it's aged better, idk. I never watched the sequels either.

Went to the first showing of Terrifier 3 last night and was kinda disappointed but not surprised.

As Art’s popularity grew after the theatrical success of terrifier 2, I assumed that the next film wouldn’t have much of a resolution. I assumed that they would want to keep this money train going, and the ending confirms that we will get at least one more film. Not mad at it, but I hope they don’t run this franchise into the ground.

Possible hot take: Art the clown is thriving in a down horror icon era, he nay not be a top 10 horror icon of all time yet but the youth love him. Someone pulled up to the showing in full cosplay lmao
