since this was all shorts , it kept my attention better
the police short - i liked it - it was reminiscent of the DOOM video game , kept my attention the entire time
the music video - it was alright , probably the goriest out of the set, this would have been better if there was more time to develop the story and better lighting.
the plane short - to me, probably the best in the movie , the setting, the pacing , the way the plot moved- it was frenetic and did not let up until the last scene
the activists short - my wife liked this one, reminded me of the movie tusk, she did say the antagonist was the "whitest of white women":russ:
I see many a "Karen" role in her future.
the stumble on the ufo in the desert short - my wifes favorite short, ehh to me she just continuously did stupid shyt the entire short-
Basically, this was if Fukk around and find out was a movie
the wrap was meh

i can see some of these ideas being jacked in a few years by the new "it" horror director and just prettied up with a larger budget to make them appear competent.

I’ve been on record many times saying horror doesn’t scare me. You don’t have to be scared to enjoy a horror film. :skip:

Like I said, the fact they made it seem like a horror film only for horror to be used in 1/3 of the movie is off putting.

I think I’ll wait for more reviews before second if I’ll watch.

saw it years ago, i have some college buddies stationed in Japan and they always hit me up on cinema gems and Anime.
they all swore by this flick.
Hell one retired from the miltary and moved there.

This movie is Meta as fukk

the symbolism, the background noise, the dialogue...the director carefully planned this out.
I enjoy how you actually start in the middle of the story and it has a low key big picture reveal... a damn 20 second phongraph reel
the antogonist was a straight up Anime villain and literally gave zero fukks. and was so damned monotone throughout,.

and the twist in the end

when i saw this before, i thought that the villain had set up stuff to proceed after his death, when the waitress got the knife , but now i realized that the "power" was transferred to the main character and he was a hell of lot stronger (could exert control in seconds unlike the bad guy who had to see inside of you to find a weakness) , it sort of explained Mamiya's memory loss as he kept trying to fukk with the Main character but could not exert any influence over him, & it basically ate him up from the inside.

The Meta aspects are really what takes it over the top for me. Every bit of ambient sound ends up feeling like it's aimed at you or your psyche. I love it.

I also really like some of the backgrounds, like the view outside the car windows when the MC takes his wife to the clinic. Speaking of which, the question of what happened to MC's wife both before and at the end of this film has had a chokehold on me for a long time. What was real? What was a vision? What was she aware of and what wasn't she?

On your spoiler note
I had the same experience. I initially thought Mamiya's last moves were to hypnotize people that would get the MC and his wife. But on additional watch, I got the same sense. The MC has become the new carrier of that Occult Doctor's twisted power, and possibly even carries the Doctor's will itself. I also wonder if that has to do with the MC's friend having nightmares where the MC is approaching him rather than Mamiya. The scene where his friend walks into his bedroom and there's a big X on the wall is one of the best reveals of the movie imo.
