I was really excited for In A Violent Nature and I left the theater last night like :beli:

I would break In A Violent Nature down as basically being:
60 minutes of the killer walking through the woods
20 minutes of kills (half of them pretty awesomely done)
10 minutes of a lady telling a story about her friend Bob being mauled by a bear

Had caught ‘In a Violent Nature’ last night. Enjoyed my time with most of it, but thought the ending fell completely flat. Felt like the A24 version of ‘Friday the 13th’ overall, where it was a combo of promise and meandering. You get these long, POV tracking shots of the killer walking about the forest that adds to the immersion, but they got tired for me after the first few times the film does it.

The F13 likeness comes through again when the dialogue is heard, it’s intentionally cheesy. The violence felt like a throwback too in that regard. Over-the-top in a laugh out loud way, but can still make an audience feel grimy as fukk after watching it. There was one particular scene that felt like something you’d see Jason Voorhees perform in a Mortal Kombat fatality sequence. :mjlol:

Girl said she wanted to be stretched out though, right? :heh:

I’d love this one way more had it ended like ‘Martha Marcy May Marlene’, where the paranoia clearly has taken a toll on the final girl and you have the audience questioning whether or not Johnny is still trailing her. They decide to do similar, but it takes forever to get that message across here.

One thing I did like about the ending though is that it plays on your expectations. You’re damn near biting your nails at every moment because you think Johnny is about to reveal himself at any second, but he doesn’t.
Half of the kills were great especially the one you are talking about. That was some Art the Clown type shyt that Johnny did in that scene.
The meandering of Johnny wandering through the woods ad nauseum made me long to see the campers even if they were having badly acted, poorly scripted dialogue interactions just to break up the monotony.

I see what they were going for with the ending but that by 5 minutes into that long ass story about Bob and the bear I realized that we weren't going to get anything approaching a satisfying ending and if they were going for the ‘Martha Marcy May Marlene’ type of ending they should've cast a better actress because the Final Girl was not up to the task of conveying paranoia bordering on mania.
Also it was wild that The Ranger basically fukked her and her homie over by saying that giving Johnny back his necklace wouldn't stop when it looks like that is all they had to do from jump.

I'm glad they decided not to continue the First Omen story and are allowing Mike Flanagan to cook.
He is too good to be constrained by a studio's desire to have a continuing story. Plus that last Exorcist movie was ass.
Definitely. His return to the theatrical realm is long overdue after Doctor Sleep, shame it took Blumhouse breaking the ‘in case of emergency’ glass to finally get here.

A lot of course correcting going on from the studios these days and post-strike. I’m all for Hollywood fukking around and finding out if that means better movies in the end. With ticket prices being the way they are and the push for PLF, I need these big releases to be way better than “oh, it was alright”.

Found it hilarious how Johnny went through all of that just to put an end to the Ranger. That’s an otherworldly tier of hate. I think the Ranger low-key enjoyed basking in that chaos.

Those last 10 minutes were frustrating as hell. Liked the intent but thought it could’ve been wrapped up way sooner. The suspense is top of the line there, though I don’t know how that’s gonna fare upon rewatch.

Lady kept on talking…and talking…and talking. Motioning my hand around hoping the scene can finish things up, but it just kept going on.

bytch idgaf about no damn Bobby, take me to the hospital before I turn this into a Hitchhiker sequel. :why:

Glad that it was just those last 10 minutes and not the entire flick though (at least for me), like ‘The Outwaters’. It’s gonna be a while before a film can anger me as much as that one did.

Dude, I hated The Outwaters!
And it was doubly fukked up because I had watched Skinamarink not too long beforehand and those two shytty movies that close together almost killed my love of horror.

when i walked out of the theater after watching Skinamarink
i wanted to run fades with anyone associated with that shyt
if i am ever at a horror convention and run into someone involved,
i may just end up on the news

probably wind up like that South Park episode where they track down mel gibson and and demand their money back because the movie sucked

I enjoyed Humane a lot.
When things took that turn and business picked up I was hooked. Love when there is well done social commentary in a dark comedy-horror flick.
Knock at the cabin does what this film tries to do better and that's not even a great film. I'd give it a 6

didnt the ranger guy say they couldn't just give back the locket?

cause isnt that what ol girl did, and he didnt pursue?

was suprised we got some face time, thought they'd keep it a mystery

what was their original plan? bear trap and burn him?

A Villa Straylight.
Anyone hear about “In a violent nature”? It’s an art house slasher hybrid (weird I know). I was gonna watch it tonight until I seen a review that kinda turned me off of it.

Looks like it’s def a film you watch at home, I heard it’s slow as fukk

In theatres Friday

I am very much looking forward to this.
