I prefer these types of movies alone at night, as high as I can manage.
The last great late night stoned horror movie viewing I had was watching Suspiria last Fall. Like a lot of folks in here I've exhausted the 80's/90's for the genre and am going back to find older gems. I did myself a great disservice by putting off Giallo films.

Gave the Possession of Michael King a pass. It seems like they were trying to make a possession film through the eyes of the possessed. The opening sequences were actually pretty solid imo, he's making a documentary and looking for proof of the supernatural so he takes part in necromancy ceremonies and satanic rituals and psychic readings...and they actually give him a decent background and reasoning for what he's doing. From there...his decision making is dumb as hell and it's the same for everyone else. The possession parts are all generic and nothing new, just rehashes of old concepts. It ends up being predictable, pretty lame and as generic as can be despite an appreciated attempt to change the point of view. Had potential...but flopped on execution.

I don't know if there's any way to make possession creative any more. Let's get a possessed pet movie with a parrot speaking in tongues so we can lay this genre to rest. I'm a glutton for punishment with the amount of possession movies I've put myself through.

What is the greatest theater experience any of you have had with a horror movie? I firmly believe that horror movies are best enjoyed in a group, like going through a haunted house, and a lot of times that experience can make or break it. The hands down best theater experience for me was Paranormal Activity. The theater was packed, it was a huge auditorium at theater in Northern VA, my ex and I had dope seats and it was a good time. During the night scenes of the movie, the theater manager or whomever would turn the air condition on then turn it back off for the day scenes which was perfect and whoever decided to do that needs a raise. It was incredible

Co-sign 100%. I went with my brother and a couple of chicks, it was opening night so the theater was packed and the scares felt original. I don't consider it a classic or anything, but wow that was a really fun horror movie experience.

I'll add a couple in there though...The Strangers was an opening night date with my gf at the time and we had to walk out of the theater so she could calm down. I've heard stories of people leaving theaters but I got to see it first hand on that one. So that's worth mention.

Saw was pretty awesome. The whole concept was unique, the theater was really into it and I kept complaining about the guy on the floor not having an identity...but it never clicked fully for me. That was a fun one.

When they re-released the Exorcist, I went to a late night showing. It was more of enjoying the reactions of others because I had seen it before and the only addition was that crab walk scene, but it was still a dope experience.

Anybody up on this? Apparently "Nightbreed" is getting a Director's Cut Blu-Ray/DVD release which drastically alters the movie. The version that came out in 1990 was edited all to hell, this version is more or less a new movie with 20 more minutes and 40 minutes total of extra footage. I heard they found the original reels of this movie a few years ago, but didn't know they were using them to rework the original movie.

We begin with an official statement from Clive Barker's team on this extraordinary project: "The Nightbreed Director's Cut is an entirely different film than the one which was released in theaters. Its 20 minutes longer than the theatrical cut, but it contains over 40 minutes of new and altered footage. Clive oversaw the reconstruction and edit himself, personally ensuring that, at long last, he was able to tell the story he always wanted to tell, but until now, had never been given the chance. Once the scenes were reordered, and the original film footage restored, the entire film received a brand new sound mix and color pass. It is, in every way, a different movie. It contains more story, more monsters, and there's even a musical number. Ultimately, what we've delivered is a love story 25 years in the making."

Haven't seen it but I'm all in for the director's cut. Especially for someone like Clive Barker.

The original was kinda trash but it's not the movie he wanted so I'm gonna give him a pass.

He has no excuse with this version though, this is supposedly exactly what he wanted.

Hopefully this version is closer to the novella "Cabal" which inspired this movie.

The book was entertaining and the movie was great. That phsychologist torturing that old man was crazy.

Clives best worl was Imagica for me though book wise. Movie wise, hell raiser1 and candyman1 obviously.

My favorite book of his is "The Great And Secret Show". Although the sequel "Everville" was garbage and he's taking 20 years to finish the trilogy on some G.R.R. Martin shyt. :snoop:

As far as movies, what you said. Although the more recent adaptation of "Dread" was pretty good IMO.
