I was watching Satan's Slaves 2: Communion :wow::whew:

I had Incantation as the best foreign horror this year but idk anymore

The opening scene alone let me know that it was gonna be crazy. The one with the empty graves and prostrating corpses :damn:.

The first one was good, the second one is even better. Now I have to go see if the same is true for May the Devil Take You Too.

Random 90s-2000s flashback watches this weekend:

Watching this for the first time. Someone told me that Denzel Washington was first tapped as the main actor (Samuel Jackson’s role) in SEVEN but he turned down the role because he allegedly stated that the movie was “too dark and depressing” . He saw the success of SEVEN and ended up starring in this

Past couple days I watched Santa's Slay, Gremlins, and Gremlins New Batch

Santa's Slay was alright. If it had a rewrite or two and spent more money on the movie instead of the opening it could have been a classic. Goldberg was ok as the killer Santa Clause.

Gremlins that's a classic.

Gremlins New Batch was pretty good. I haven't seen this since I rented movies on VHS so you can tell that was a long time ago. The movie seems like they try to take the bar scene from the first Gremlins and stretch it a whole movie. The movie is missing the heart of the first Gremlins and even though the jokes keep coming none hit as hard as the bar scene stuff in the 1s tone. I still liked the movie it was like a drunk episode of Looney Tunes.

I thought Gangs of London season 1 was violent, this second season is like - “fuk it, let’s just murder every body in the most vicious ways possible and the closer they are to you, they can get it too”
:deadrose: :picard:
I can’t imagine what that writer’s treatment for the key characters looked like -
😳
DB/kill counts has to be at least 10 per episode and I’m up to episode 7. One episode the gunmen took out a whole open air grocery market of innocent bystanders - that was at least 20 . Basically the formula for this is- ‘no matter how big your problems seem to be- there’s nothing like a nice dose of murder to cure your woes 😵

Dude just murked his female MI-6 handler in a horse stall with a horse bridle with her daughter less than 6 ft away, as revenge for thinking she was responsible for setting up the murder of his father- basically half this show is revenge killings. Think I’m exaggerating? This is how the beginning of episode 7 starts out

It’s like watching 10 different serial killers running around in one city at the same time operating with impunity - what type of lawless ish is this, innit?
:what::popcorn:

Another Airbnb /smart home subgenre horror movie

What Margaux wants, Margaux gets. As seniors celebrate their final college days at a smart house, its highly advanced AI system, Margaux, begins to take on a deadly presence of its own. A carefree weekend of partying soon turns into a dystopian nightmare as they realize Margaux plans to eliminate them one way or another. Time starts to run out as the group desperately tries to survive and outsmart the smart home

Also it’s one of those- none of the characters seem like able or redeemable so you don’t care if they die but I’m watching for how they execute this concept of “Alexa v everybody” cinematic theme.

Update - My rating overall (4.5/10) it’s a bit too CW/SyFy channel for me, acting not great and it took awhile to get where it needed to go with the whole AI serial killer execution

- visuals/ cinematography were good (8/10)
-the kills were creative (7/10)- - they could have toned down with all the background angst self -reflection exposition in the first 45 minutes

- took a real cheesy turn at 1hr12 min, (we’ve all seen enough horror movies to know not to stick your hand down a garbage disposal 🙄)

And also the writing is …
