I need some horror for the weekend watch. Otherwise I'll just be binging up this Netflix ish called Start-up that's not horror but has me pretty hooked. If you can't do horror, why not a money-laundering, crypto-business venture funded by drug money in an intense crime thriller?

Binged all the seasons of this series over pandemic- posted about in The official Netflix thread; nothing like financial crimes, murder, corruption, backstabbery and more murder to get you through a horror movie slump.

The American version right? Just finished up the last 2 eps of season 3 as of yesterday. That show is so Fukkin engaging

There better be a Season 4 in the works because damn that series was so good. And they left off on a major cliffhanger. Izzy is the grim reaper - this girl can’t stay out of trouble for shyt



Russian mafia, FBI, CIA Black Ops, dark web, hostile corporate takeovers, Cuban gangs, Haitian gangs, police gangs, Mexican gangs, hedge fund gangs, google, no one was left unscathed or untouched in this bih - Miami really gets down like that??! Silicon Valley on steroids- get down or lay down of the tech world.

I think Because of the subject material no major network wanted to touch it. Imagine being Amazon or Google with their reach and losing sponsorship money; this series portrayed the dark side and secrets of the tech world and the methods they use to gain funding, access and monetary gain. Cybersecurity- unchartered territory.

I read that The critics were trying to give it negative press but the viewership demand and interest was so high after the first season - they had to renew it. Most people who watched this did so through word of mouth rather than advertising. Became like a cult hit and Netflix picked it up from Sony. It was the highest rated show on Crackle. Ironically, I think if it was on any other network besides crackle- it wouldn’t have been as good. It’s like crackle gave the creative license with an anything goes policy - make this as violent and morally complex as possible, channel the demonic energy of the tech funding industry.

I'm halfway through season 3 and it's been great. Ronnie is definitely the show stealer (also his son whose whole arc was really well-portrayed even though I got annoyed with the kid).

I feel like it lost some steam this last season, but I fully blame that on them separating the main trio too much and Izzy just knocked on Ronald's door which gives me hope that things will pick up. I don't know how they could top season two though....that was peak!

It's funny because I feel like this might have some inspiration from Halt and Catchfire, which was about Silicon Valley startups. But that one took place in the 80's/90's and the tech races were all done without the black market influences that make Startup such an exciting show. But it had a trio of geniuses that constantly clashed over the direction of the business. Each season involved a technology race against competing companies (minus the cyber crimes and . The female lead was a coding expert and a hot head that pursued tech for love of the technology and not money. There are just enough similarities in the format and approach where I feel like they saw the vanilla version of startup companies and decided to make a gritty version that recognized the darker side of tech investments...Halt was still pretty dope though.

Halfway through and so far…pretty damned good. Creepy found footage vibes though idk how they’re gonna connect it all.

I’m watching this. Took a mid week “mental health” couple days (*cough cough) off work bc I have an insane amount of unused vacation time- decided to start my spring cleaning and watch ish on my watchlist. (After I binge watched Queen of the South on Netflix) I saw your recc and put this on.

Right off top- this movie has me intrigued. Even the subtitles are scary and dark. ….”They died 5 days later”

talk about quick escalation.
the choppiness of it all, fast paced scene switching reminds me of “The Poughkeepsie Tapes” - I’m interested to see how it all meshes in the conclusion.

I’m at the scene where there are dead birds being filmed on the ground; children are in the classroom drawing circles to test their telekinetic abilities being recorded like it’s a TV game show -
