Day Eight: P2

P2 takes the bones of "Woman In Peril" and "Woman Gets Revenge" movies, wraps them in "Christmas Horror" wrapping paper and delivers a wholly satisfying film.
Wes Bentley as the psycho security guard and Rachel Nichols as the object of his unhinged obsession have great chemistry and the action set pieces are all very well done. Plus the script (co-written by Alexandre Aja) is tight and wastes no time getting to the point while including inventive twists and turns in the cat and mouse game between the two characters.

I give 'P2' 3 out of 4 Gun Totin' Santa Loomis'

Day Three: Better Watch Out

This movie’s biggest selling point is the way it pulls of twists (big twists, really big twists and “Holy shyt! Did that just happen?” twists) with a skill that never makes the audience feel as if their intelligence is being insulted. To it’s credit the shifts in tone never feel jarring either. As things go from comedy to comedy-horror to outright horrific, the transition is seamless.
The young cast are all really good in their roles and play the adult scenarios very convincingly. And I loved Patrick Warburton and Virginia Madsen as the clueless parents.
On the flip side, I personally was not a fan of the final twist at the end of the film despite how well it was executed and most likely how satisfying it was to the majority of audiences. I’d have preferred the darker tone continue all the way through the end credits.
Ultimately, Better Watch Out is a great addition to the Christmas horror movie sub-genre that constantly keeps viewers on their toes by zigging where you would expect it to zag. Definitely worth a watch.

I give 'Better Watch Out' 3.5 out of 4 Gun Totin' Santa Loomis'

Day Nine: Rare Exports - A Christmas Tale

I think it was Roger Ebert who described Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale as being a "Santa Claus origin story crossed with The Thing", and I cannot find any better way of describing this wonderfully weird horror/comedy.
I'm a sucker for tales that flip the idea of Santa Claus on his head and takes a darker angle like featuring Krampus or having Santa be a murderous monster and Rare Exports delivers all of that in spades.
The writing , cinematography and direction were all top notch and I also really liked that the hero of the story was a little kid who seemed far more adept at surviving Evil Santa than any of the adults in this movie.

Gave Elves a quick spin for a couple of episodes and...weird tone shifts got me interested enough to watch more. 75% of the time it plays like a family flick but the other 25% is a mix of very ominous exchanges and straight up gore. The second episode is all child-like mischief before a crazy panic, wild scene, and decapitation action. I can't tell if I like it yet.

if the next TCM even comes anywhere near this one in terms of quality

:ohlawd:

I remember sitting in the movie theater when this trailer dropped and thought to myself if this movie is as half as good as the trailer
that shyt would be a classic.
it they killed it from the trailer to the actual movie
Hoping the new one is as good.

My cousin and i were talking a while back and think this has to be one of the greatest Horror trailers ever...
the music, the dread... it just did what it was meant to do.

Michael Bay’s Texas Chainsaw is the best TCM.
:wow:
