Finally watched The Witch :whoo:

Late pass I know.

I can see why the majority of audiences didn't like it.

But I loved it. It really was a masterpiece on tone and atmosphere. Very visceral. I felt the despair and desperation in every scene.

Really made me think about those times and what it was like.

And the last 30 minutes was :merchant:

9/10.
Came in here to post that I just watched the witch... :beli:

For all the hype and good reviews, I felt like there was no reward and I really found the time period annoying - i can't bring myself to care about zealous whites in the 13 colony era - so the whole "period piece" thing didn't draw me in either

The Babadook:shaq2:

...how did this snoozefest (literally) get rated so high:russell:

I never hated a little kid more:wtb:

I kinda thought the same thing when I initially watched it because they billed it as a "Horror" movie when it's REALLY a story about dealing with Depression (and also having an annoying kid :mjlol:). Overall though I still liked it.

This is why you're my man

My exact feelings word for word. I tell all my people what gets me about the movie is the sense of dread from the start and how nothing remotely happy happens. Seeing a family ripped a part like that and a main character just have crap pilled on top of her always gets me.

And the last 30 minutes are just sad as hell

The Witch Im STILL on the fence on whether I really liked it or not because I see both sides as to why people loved or hated it. It's not my "Go-To" in the sense of recommending a new solid Horror flick but it did have a very eerie feel to it and you kinda feel like you're there. The dialogue will throw some people off too if they're not into 16th Century English. The ending is "maybe" why Im still :patrice: and I got the whole point of the movie, but still. I'd still people to watch it though just to get an opinion.

I agree 100% with this. The people that didn't like it tend to be the dumb, I want to watch another Saw franchise type.

I mean, even though I agree a little I think it's a film that you have be a real nerd about the genre to like. For me anyway. Or just a general nerd about film. Which is why the critics and audience scores were so far apart.

Most people with modern horror tastes that have never really dug in the genre just don't get it because it is not like modern horror films.

And it's a very bleak film. There's no happiness there. Every minute is oppressive.

That automatically doesn't mesh with a lot of people who like some humour and lightness thrown in.

so i took out some time and went to watch Ouija..

i was expecting a cool film but also prepared to get let down ..

this film was made pretty well and the director knew about horror genre especially possession and haunted realms..the effect of having less music and no music during a scary scene made me applaud this..

i also caught the twilight zone the movie reference .homage..

i managed to peep the 1st ep of The Exorcist..

it was cool..but i lmao @ Cameron from Ferris Buelar as the demented Dad..

the ending was cool ..

so its based not entirely on the book?
they changed the background of the characters and era.
