I know I'm in the minority but I prefer irons. Dots are more intimidating. You put a dot on someone it's and if they've been there before and they are hardened its still .oh and i'm kinda jealous towards ppl who learn to shoot on red dots instead of irons, it's basically cheating lol.
haha, i wrote that too about how you want every advantage possible but it seemed too for a hobby thread so i left it out lolIt maybe cheating but if my life is on the line, I don't give a fukk as long as my safely comes first .
totally agree... and this is one of the great things about glocks, if you don't like the feel or function of a part the aftermarket's so huge that it's already gonna have a replacement in the style you envision. at the same time it's one of the worst things, glocks come with several parts that were acceptable in the '80s but are now way behind their competitors (plastic sights, shyt trigger, outdated red dot mounting system). to me it's a bit like buying a humvee and complaining about the ride comfort or quality of the cupholders. The rep at the gun range stated that I should get the gun without mods for right now and add them once I got better.
you're anticipating recoil, next time try loading a mag with a couple empty brass cases mixed in. another drill you could do is dry firing with a coin balanced on the front sight. When I first shot the Glock last weekend, I didn't use any and my aim was off to the left for the bulk of the shots.
this is why i can't fukk with mounting setups that take the rear sight off... with a cowitness your batteries dying is like that mitch hedberg joke... "sorry for the convenience, the broken escalator is temporarily stairs"I'm always thinking batteries will eventually fail, the chances are low, higher in some cases (cheap Chinese red dots). But irons is the way to go imo.
i got rid of my red dots, and am just focusing on iron sights. Reason whyI shot a S&W before but didn't like it. Felt too heavy for me. I'm still not familiar with a lot of gun lingo but I tried the G19 (with and w/o the red dot) and G17 (with red dot). It maybe cheating but if my life is on the line, I don't give a fukk as long as my safely comes first .
The rep at the gun range stated that I should get the gun without mods for right now and add them once I got better. When I first shot the Glock last weekend, I didn't use any and my aim was off to the left for the bulk of the shots. But at the same time, I currently have issues with my right arm when I can't completely straighten it out so I thought was the issue with the inaccuracy.
I need to get this soon so I can stop procrastination and have a solid home protection weapon on some just in case sh*t. Hopefully I will only use it at the gun range and not on a actual person. I will admit that I never been a big gun guy but I have to be real with the society that we live in and these other folks have no problem with tooling up so I need to have one to protect myself. At the same time, I now understand why people like shooting them because of the power that you feel with them.
i got rid of my red dots, and am just focusing on iron sights. Reason why
1) i'm not very disciplined. i don't regularly maintain my weapons. If my red dot optic battery dies, it might be months or a year before i notice and change it. Which to me is a gamble because i could easily be in a self defense situation during that period of time.
2) i don't expect to get into any long distance shootouts. 10 yard or less is my priority. a human sized target from that distance is not that hard to hit. So my focus as a marksman is not on precision shooting, I focus having a clean draw, and a flat consistent shooting form, good muzzle control so i can control my grouping.
This is just me though, some people train well enough that they are faster with the reflex sight than irons, but as i said. i'm more casually trained, so there is always a bit of searching for the dot after that initial draw.
You got it, Power Man.
