I'm in the same boat as
@Morethan1 but to put it simply, if you don't own, you wouldn't understand. Sheep, wolves, sheepdogs.
Growing up, Mom Dukes was very "anti-gun". I was always prone to violence even though there was none in the household. She didn't like me watching shyt with guns as a kid like G.I. Joe or Transformers, wouldn't let me get a BB gun or play paintball, and had to be begged and convinced every time to let me get a new Nerf gun or Super Soaker.
Pops was cool but went along with it, just to avoid having to listen to her complain I suppose.
shyt didn't work on me.
Siblings are square and anti-gun. I'm still square but own.
Fast forward to grown-up me. I pretty much live off that same violent shyt she didn't want me watching or listening to (or playing as far as video games), and when I joined the military I purposefully put myself in positions to allow me to see more "action". I got me a job that requires me to shoot automatic weapons and shyt, and now I got a different strap for each day of the week, and that's just pistol play.
Mom.
Imma keep adding to my collection. Outside of work, unless someone tries to take my life or rob me, I have no intention of shooting another human being. Guns I own or have access to don't allow or enable me to murder someone; they're just tools you can use to inflict grievous bodily harm or death, no different than the whip in the garage or the knives on my countertop.
I say all that to say that some folks have it in them and some don't. The restbof my family really doesn't. If shyt pops off they'll 100% be stains and won't have given themselves a chance.
Never made sense to me for black folks to not know how to shoot, even if they don't wanna keep weapons in the crib but oh well.
