Active shooter at Northwestern hospital. Holding a nurse hostage
Active shooter at Northwestern hospital. Holding a nurse hostage
ONE YEAR AGO TODAY: I closed on the mansion. It was one of the most magical days of my life! I’ve had a total of SIX law firms on the project. The Closing attorney, the Eviction attorney, the Tax Attorneys (property taxes are $50K/year) the Landmark attorney/consultants, The Business License Attorneys and the Zoning Attorneys. Every month, I’ve paid my (huge) mortgage and notified all municipal parties of our intentions. They’re all pretty quick because they’re specialists. (Still thousands of dollars.) The plans for the property are beautiful!
But I can’t do ANYTHING ELSE because Alderman King has decided to “slow walk” my project. We can’t start development because we need to change the zoning from residential to commercial. That can ONLY be done through the Alderman and she’s decided “I have to wait, because she is very busy and there’s a process.” Imagine being an elected official and purposefully making someone burn through money for a year as they try to open a business? If she weren’t Black, we’d cry discrimination, but this is us. We have the communities we deserve because this is who we elect. I wouldn’t know this woman in an elevator, but she doesn’t like my aggression. Her power play antics have cost at least an additional $100K. I’ve met 3 other Black women in this 4th Ward having the exact same problem. We’ve become colleagues, Sisters in this struggle.
When we (my generation) sit around talking about what happened to Black Chicago, make sure there’s a mirror at the table. WE ARE doing this. I will get to the other side, eventually. My Cousin says I “have grit.” The good thing is I’ve made some powerful friends outside the community. They wouldn’t believe this if they didn’t see it live. (It’s funny, wealthy people do not play with money!)
This space will be for the younger Black people. They are amazing people. I want them to learn from our mistakes as we inactively allowed our communities to dissipate. I’m still wildly optimistic!

I know all too well about dealing with Aldermen and especially the black vanguard here in Chicago. There is a shift right now coming from a younger millennial generation that recognizes that the black power figures here in Chicago are more interested in being gatekeepers than progression of our people. This includes the 100 Black Men of Chicago. Which I’m not a direct member of but close with many and have dealings with many. We are trying to get these folks up out the paint. And also trying to remove some of the lower that these Aldermen have hoarded for themselves.
It sounds like a reflection of politics in general, a bunch of dinosaurs who don’t necessarily want change to quick or at allI know all too well about dealing with Aldermen and especially the black vanguard here in Chicago. Yeah its right there on the corner, like a block up or so.I recognize this house. It's right across the street from Mariano's on King drive.
So Arclight opened back up now but as an AMC?Looks like the AMC over at New City on the near north side opened up last week. No new or fancy amenities or features, sounds like it’s the same as the old Arclight except with the AMC coating
I don’t drive myself but I wish they still had a bus that ran down Clybourn Ave towards the Webster Place theater
