Trying to pick my spots for Restaurant week this year.

Starting tonight at either Capital Grille or one of the other Steakhouses.

Any of you got spots on your list this year ? I always want to try some of the French restaurants that participate, but I'm always iffy about what they offer for the special. I'd jump out there on a recommendation tho

Try to hit up the really vaunted restaurants since you can get in on an affordable pre-fixe menu.

I would hit up -

Avec
Blackbird

BLVD
Boka
Brindille (French)

Spiaggia
Chicago Chop
Q
Formentos
Gene & Georgetti
GT Fish & Oyster
GT Prime
Kinzie Chophouse

Lawry’s
Le Colonial
Nico Osteria
NoMi
Prime & Provisions

RPM Steak
Sapori Trattoria
Sepia
STK Chicago
Sunda
Terzo Piano
Topolobampo
Travelle

Trulucks
Vermillion

I would stick to these. Bolded are a MUST.

South Side Chicago to Nola
Gangs and drugs.

A lot of old folks who owned homes for decades didn't have anyone responsible enough to takeover the house and pass it down to. Mainly because of the influence of gangs and drugs. Same goes for Black owned businesses that were so prevalent at one time.

But those hot meals though :banderas:

this part, folks left Chicago or no one who grew up were responsible to take care of the crib, happened to my great grandmothers crib on cregier (sp) and it’s def going to happen to them nice homes in pill hill, if i was still living in the chi, I’d try to get a home over there

In the 80's / early 90's Lincoln mall on Sundays was high key the place for middle class black folks to stunt. Like even if we didn't go to church, my mom would make us put on our nice clothes to go out there lol. Then when river oaks got converted to indoor, that became the hot shopping spot. Now they're both dead

What's good Tiger Shark breh. My parents didn't' have time, but I had my oldest daughter in CSSC for years. But that had me sitting poolside at Olive Harvey, Chicago state, or some random suburb 3-4 days a week for YEARS. She loved it tho.

salute :salute:tiger sharks, that club took me many places including Texas for a big meet

you knew folks had money shopping at river oaks back in the day, i remember it was something serious to go to that mall. But i miss everblack :sadbron:

nikkas in Roseland loved them some mexican girls?

:patrice:

blasphemy

Yeah Queen of the Sea was a chain. The first time I went, my grandfather took me to one in the city that was somewhere under the EL tracks. I can’t remember exactly but must’ve been somewhere on 63rd street.

Ponderosa was also a chain. They closed them all down in Illinois...still got them in Indiana.

Or Strack & Van Til. :mjpls:

ok i knew ponderosa was a chain... that steak and salad bar was banging to a young drop top doc

I remember I used to look at the south suburbs like a paradise back in the day. River Oaks mall, all the bad broads in dolton and south holland, the bowling alley in calumet city. All that shyt hood as fukk now. Even the far south suburbs like richton park and university park bout that action now.

man if this ain’t the truth, but bar none rainbow rink had them young hot girls in training there :whew: to a young me

Seems like everybody with a little $$$$ is opting for nwi or will county now.

I was a groomsman at my cousins wedding last year and it seemed like everbody was living in those two places i mentioned. These are dudes that all grew up in the woodlawn area.
All facts it's same with education too my my mom could of went to jail for sending me to a junior high school out of my district but to finesse it my uncle so happen to live across the street from the school n he already had the juice in oak Park he had his own convenient store on Madison and highland in oak Park. Not to get offtopic but it's crazy how you interact with ppl early on in life & 20yrs later they become millionaires off their talent wether it's entertainment sports business corporate federal government even thottin:yeshrug:. But that same yr in 03 I was in 8th grade word was going around about me being a bball player because I was quiet first month of skool I had to keep a low profile because I had to take cta n pace back n forth to school n my uncle sonny Parker told me make sure nobody follows me to find out if I lived in oak Park or not. But make longer story short any of y'all familiar with steelo off the mtv show ridiculousness? Well I grew up with him n his Bros n they went to elementary school right across from where I stayed but in 7th grade word was going around about casting for a baseball movie called hardball. They all went to the casting I didn't go because I was playing AAU during that summer so I was traveling all over the country that's how I ran into drose lil Romeo oj mayo Taylor king damn near the whole 06&07 highschool class back in junior. Me and demetri mccamey played on same AAU team I was the top sg in my 7th& 8ty grade class top 5 in the state drose was #1. Beginning of 8th grade we got invited to this annual holiday tournament where all of the top players in the state plays n i saw my name as the #1 player in oak Park and number 2 in the state drose was number 1. Mind u later on that yr Evan Turner was my junior high school rival n they said he was best player in oak Park before I came never even heard of em but one of my aau teammates lived next door to him in ktown on cermak and Kirkland:ohhh:im like this nikka on the same lick I'm on:russ::stopitslime::mjlol: but crazy that me steelo's cousin became Kool she was bad af :wow: n this nikka Michael b Jordan n steelo came to my last home game in 8ty grade when we played Evan Turner this shyt is crazy to me looking back because Iman shumpter didn't even play on our team but was always at my games but never played with us he was yr after me I got stories for days about these stars before the come up:mjcry:
Thats wild. My cousin & them went to grammar school with d rose. (I went there too for a little bit but we moved to the burbs ). Like you said people knew he was destined for the nba even before he was in high school.

I begged my mom to take me to the hardball casting call when i was in like 3rd grade but she said no.
I really should've been the one playing g baby in the movie:beli: :hubie:

Ah...gotcha.
I didn’t realize there were many black people in Lisle. That shooting at that cigar shop kind of surprised me.

We moved to River Forest in the late 90’s from the south subs. I knew some black families in LaGrange that were chemists and worked worked at Fermilab and a few of the other labs out that way. We’d go out to Fox Valley occasionally. Oak Brook mall was ten minutes away from us so that’s where we primarily went.

I eventually attended Fenwick but my parents entertained sending me to IMSA for a hot second.

St. Charles is nice, especially the Campton Hills area. But we’ve always viewed Glen Ellyn as being a bit more posh. I know a few people from Glen Ellyn and they are legit old Chicago money whose families had ties in founding Nothern Trust Bank. We always viewed Glen Ellyn as being a half-step below Hinsdale.

I used to go out to St. Charles to the Q Center for training. The Q Center used to be a compound owned by Arthur Anderson right on the Fox River. After Anderson was dissolved, the property was purchased by a few of the big accounting firms and so that’s where they sent us for training. After training, we’d go and act a fool in downtown St. Charles. Folks would get so drunk they’d go skinny dipping in the Fox River.
IIRC Sandra Bland grew up in lisle.

But the far sw suburbs ( im referring to aurora, bolingbrook, romeoville, joliet even napervile. ) are kind of an anomaly in the Chicago area bc its really one of the few areas where all demographics are represented.

There are some black people out there but we're more spread out.

Thanks for sharing. Going to the Stadium party for sure. Probably the largest party of the weekend.

I know it's close to United Center, but I feel like only out-of-towners would pay $35 to go to The Bar 10 Doors:francis:

If you go to the dispensaries in the city, make sure get there an hour before they open. Lines are long, and they will close them before they even open. Yes I know that doesn't even make sense.

Chicago has tons of steakhouses. I would say probably hit up Gibson’s. It’s probably Chicago’s most well-known local steakhouse. It’s in the Gold Coast and in a very popular tourist spot. Gibson’s is a good starter for Chicago steak.
