Prtizker is another garbage chicago machine politician, but this is why you vote dem every time over GOP.

The state learned after Rauner did less than nothing. I didn’t vote for him at first. I was aiming towards Kennedy. And after his 1st hundred days recently passing I don’t recall him doing much this far beyond getting weed legalized.

But according to the Hoosiers (imma just say that word instead) weed has already been legal. They tryin to set me up on some goofy shyt. And I don’t even smoke.

Was south Holland ever HF, Olympia Fields status for black folk :jbhmm:
@ab.aspectus

It was considered to be a nice community but it didn’t exactly have the cachet that Olympia Fields and Flossmoor had which both, at one point, were regularly mentioned alongside Winnetka, Kenilworth, and Lake Forest. In fact, up until the late 80’s, both towns were listed in the top 10 of wealthiest towns in Illinois.

According to the latest suburban rankings by Pierre deVise, the Roosevelt University urbanologist, the village is the seventh wealthiest community in the Chicago area, just behind Lake Forest, with an average household income of $110,000.”

The “status” of both towns came from connections to the University of Chicago and the Olympia Fields Country Club. There are hundreds of country clubs around the Chicagoland area, but for some reason, Olympia Fields was in the top three most socially elite, alongside Medinah Country Club and Onwentsia in Lake Forest. I’m talking about, there were no black members until like the 90’s and even now it’s very few even though the town is predominantly black. I believe there was a black CEO in the 80’s or 90’s that tried to integrate Olympia Fields and he got denied. I think it was the dude that founded Soft Sheen.

The reason behind why the club has remained exclusive after all these years is because the UofC had influence in its creation alongside the Union League Club downtown. The Union League provides access to the country club so the club would get a lot of high powered city leaders down there to play.

So the country club itself provided status for the town bolstered by ease of access to the University of Chicago through the Metra Electric line, you got a lot of UofC faculty and administrators that resided in both Flossmoor and Olympia Fields at some point.

South Holland, although a nice town, didn’t have those social connections. And honestly, how an area became “fashionable” for black prople was really dictated by the number of high status black families (Jack and Jill families) that lived in the town. I can recall maybe one family living in South Holland in the south suburban chapter. Most of them lived in H-F, Frankfort, OF, Palos, C C Hills, even Chicago Heights. The last National President of the Links live in Olympia Fields.

I just saw these articles though. They are interesting.

Summer recommendation:

Wendella Boats:

Chicago's Original Architecture Tour - Wendella Boats

Good value. About $30 for 2 hours. They go up the Chicago River and out to Lake Michigan from McCormick Place to around Chicago Avenue.

Nice lil getaway for you and your ol' lady. Not too touristy either (the chaperone ain't talking all through it). The boats have 2 decks, so you're not stuck in one spot.

They have bar onboard too. I usually buy a beer and stash a pint in her purse :lolbron:...but "do you"
