@Bryan Danielson @Call Me James

I’m coming down to Charlotte in August to try to get a everyday feel for the city.

I’m already looking for work down there. I just what to get the vibe of the city.

What spots should I hit to get the everyday feeling. What are some of the black middle class neighborhoods I can ride through? Good restaurants? Cool family spots?

Camp North End is an artsy section where a lot of black folks hang out. There’s always something going on there too. It’s an old warehouse that was turned into an arts area with shops and events.

Mallard Creek has some good neighborhoods and it’s not a bad area. Steele Creek section. I like the Noda area which is a little more of a hipster area.

Nana’s Soulfood, Merts, Soul Central, Nappy Chef, there’s a gas station on the corner or South Blvd and East Blvd(it’s called quik shoppe.. it’s a Shell station) that people say has the best fried chicken in Charlotte.. and speaking of Charlotte, I highly recommend stopping by Price’s Chicken Coop! Make sure you got cash though.

You said family spots.. I don’t know if you have little kids or not but Imaginon library is pretty good. The splash pads in First Ward Park and Romare Bearden Park. Discovery Place too. I’ll wait for the other bros t add on

Plaza midwood is a good area to walk through. It's been gentrified, but you still have some of the old shops like house of Africa, mama's, Thomas street before night is about as comfortably mixed b/w as you'll find in the city. Plenty of good restaurants in that area as well.

And it's just a couple miles from NoDa that @Bryan Danielson was talking about and I actually second his call on NoDa.

If you're going to Mallard creek hitting up university isn't a bad look and the paddle should still be rocking.

If you have kids then definitely hit up Frankie's Fun park. It's close to that area, but solid.

On the other hand, freedom park is really nice. There's a lot of great homes new and old in that area and it's worth a walk/bike ride through. You can grab food at the Met on the way back and drive through Cherry a gentrified, but historically black neighborhood. And there's still black folk there.

As far as a lot of the black neighborhoods, it's probably not best to just cruise around if you aren't there for a purpose. :francis:

Yes, it was that place. They did serve alcohol but nobody was really drinking like that. I don't even remember seeing anyone go to the bar. Everyone there seemed "normal" and not the type of person that you think might be in there. If you're interested in trying it out, I recommend going for the experience.
