Wilder: Why Do They Have to Cheat When It's Time to Fight Me?

Deontay Wilder can’t understand why this keeps happening to him.
More than any other fighter in boxing in recent years, Wilder has had to deal with the consequences of opponents’ performance-enhancing drug use. For the third time in 16 months, Wilder won’t face his original opponent because the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association caught his opponent using a banned substance (Luis Ortiz Fails Drug Test, Deontay Wilder Fight in Doubt - Boxing News).
This time it was Luis Ortiz, who was scheduled to challenge Wilder (38-0, 37 KOs) for the knockout artist’s WBC heavyweight title November 4 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Wilder was furious Friday as his handlers looked for a replacement for Ortiz (27-0, 23 KOs, 2 NC), who tested positive for the banned diuretics hlorothiazide and hydrochlorothiazide to ruin their showdown.

“Man, I’m so frustrated right now,” Wilder said during a video he posted through his Instagram account Friday. “It’s just crazy. Again, this sh*t happened to me. Again! Nobody will never know what if feels like to put your body through this. I’m so ready for him right now. A third time! Again. Over and over and over, each and every time. They don’t wanna play fair when it come to me.
“But I understand because, sh*t, look who you fittin’ to face. I knock mother***ers out for a living. That’s what I do. That’s what I do. I’d be scared of me, too. bytch ass. You ain’t no f***ing ‘King Kong.’ You a f***ing baboon. Oh my God! Man, I’m so frustrated right now, people. Y’all gotta understand, man, this is crazy. This is crazy.”
Wilder was in no mood to consider Ortiz’s excuse, that prescription medication to control high blood pressure caused his positive test. The Tuscaloosa, Alabama, native won’t give Ortiz the benefit of the doubt, especially since Ortiz tested positive for an anabolic steroid following his first-round knockout of Lateef Kayode in September 2014.
“To sum all of this up, Ortiz allegedly talking about he on blood pressure medicine, which is a lie,” Wilder said. “And if he is, then why the f*** you didn’t write it down on the VADA sheet? That was easy to do. You’re supposed to let them know what you’re on. That was easy to do. But that’s a f***ing lie because we know. That’s why you didn’t make it to the press conference [September 20 in Manhattan]. That’s why you didn’t catch that flight to the press conference, because you was at the doctor, getting IVs stuck in you. Yeah, I know. I know you was trying to flush that sh*t out. And then what you really took, you took something else to try to cover it up, like a shield, like a shield over it, to cover it up.
“But it ain’t no getting around this sh*t, man. Why the f*** y’all do this sh*t? … You need something to beat me? But you ‘King Kong!’ You ‘King Kong’ and pound your motherf***ing chest and all this bullsh*t. And who am I? Who am I? I’m just a mother***er that done fought bums, right? Beatin’ up people. But look at this sh*t.”
An emotional Wilder concluded his series of videos Friday by reminding boxing fans not to believe the 38-year-old Ortiz’s version of what transpired.
“People, don’t let Oritz’s people or anybody else persuade you to go anywhere else or think any way else,” Wilder said. “They know what they was doing. They know what they put in they system. They tried to hide it and cover it up, but it didn’t work. It failed miserably. And here we are right now.
“I just wanna know, man. Man, I just want a serious answer before I go. Why y’all gotta cheat for me? Why? Are y’all that scared of me? Am I that scary. I just talk my talk to walk my walk. That’s it. I’m very confident in what I say. And what I mean is what I say, and what I say, I mean. That’s it. If I say I’m gonna beat your ass, I’m gonna beat your ass, no questions asked. That’s how real I am. But look, man, I’m out, man.”
