Did you see how Canelo used that style of fighting vs Lara & Floyd?
How can you compare someone who looked so evenly matched with Lara, and so easily outclassed skill wise, with a Prime James Toney? The skill level is not there to put him alongside Toney's name.
Unless you mean he's like a Mexican knockoff version of James Toney in his later years....not a prime Toney.

I thought Ward would be the new B-Hop and the way Dirrell was smooth but used to like to mix it up, thought he would be the new verion of a toney.

Canelo developed into a slick but heavy handed counter puncher who prefers to stay in the pocket and rather slip and roll than move away he even uses the Philly shell sometimes
so say what u want but the comparison is legit
now don't mix up things though nobody compared Canelo's achievements and career to Tony's yet it would be hard to do so given the fact that Canelo is only 26... all the comparison is about style

I've been watching his fights heavy the past couple of weeks, he don't even move his head lol.. he happens to move it sometimes when he wants to over exaggerate his defense and then someone makes a gif of it and all of a sudden that's what he does the whole fight.okay then there's not, you won, I throw in the towel
Saying Canelo is the new James Toney because they look similar in the ring bc of the shoulder roll & stockiness, is like when people were saying Vince Carter is the new Michael Jordan because they looked similar on the court bc of their low post offense & dunking ability.
Imo there's a huge gap in skill level between James Toney and Canelo. Until Canelo can use his skills to get a better W than the one he has over Erislandy Lara, I cant see him being the new James Toney

tbh it would be easier to argue about Canelo with you if you would be more objective about him
I'm a fan of him but I'm aware of his mistakes as a fighter but I've never seen you saying one good attribute of his, one good element of his game, just telling how bad he is.
Let's be realistic breh, he belongs to the top level, he would be Golovkin's best win and he is at least top 20 P4P on some people's lists even top 10 but at least top 20, now you can say he's overrated that's okay for me like it's whatever but let's not act like he could be eve in that conversation if he wouldn't be a pretty fukking good fighter in general with things he does well.

I don't say he s the new Toney, I usually don't say x is the new y and such cause every fighter is unique but on the other and I like style comparisons and Canelo's style draws a stronger comparison with Toney's than with many other fighter's. Mayweather is Mayweather and Canelo was 22...
Lara...? He still beat Lara at the age of 23-24 still not in his prime while Lara represented on a world class level a style of matchup which is hard for Canelo. I always thought that's rather impressive than not. And he's only better since.
And now please let's stop argue about this just accept that in my opinion their styles are comparable and I didn't say hit about levels.

I'm critical of him, I do find him overhyped.. I feel that he lost to Lara, I think he only landed 13 head shots.
I once was his biggest fan here, i wish we had a easier way in looking up our post u could see me HYPE him up.. this is before the hatton fights when he was on telemundo, I was impressed with his speed and power.. but has he progressed with fights I saw that he punches too wide, his looks like he should punch harder and that I had simply overrated him. I was highly disappointed on how he fought against floyd, he actually tried to outbox floyd(the arrogance of this guy to think he can out box Floyd) like that was his actual gameplan, he's losing and he doesnt adjust at all. he then ducks triple g, charlo, Andrade and hes fought a lot of small guys.
