he's a floyd stan....this sentence let me know the deal

now what really aggravates me is the continued downplaying of margarito's role in the welterweight division in the 2000s...margarito wasn't a draw among the mexicans? :hhh: news to me

this nikka also got his timeline mixed up...he fought zab after zab lost to baldomir..he got criticized for this, including by me..then because he got paper champ comments he fought baldomir in a godawful fight

floyd stans :hhh:..this guy gets the nikka please for this article

Like its an award:russ:

"The Patscorpio 'nikka Please!:hhh:' award goes too...the author of the Floyd :cape: piece"

Margarito really wasn't that big of star until he beat Cotto... :manny:

I don't say you have to agree with everything he wrote but the main message is right... Some people like to picture Mayweather as some smart cherry picker when he fought and beat some of the best fighters of his generation.

also I still don't get why you think Margarito would have been that dangerous at Floyd. He had size and volume, latter would have been taken away by Mayweather, how do you picture him beating Mayweather?

i go by what margarito did with his size and volume..that guy really brutalized some ppl in those days..and im not going to go with a "certainty" that floyd would take away his size and volume breh...if that was the case he would and should have took away maidana's size and volume in the first fight

Is it just me or anyone else thinks that the classic boxing style categorization á'la boxer-puncher-swarmer is crude and got outdated?

If so what categories would you rather use or add?
@patscorpio @Newzz @PJTech @the old mongoose @mr. smoke weed etc... whoever wants to answer
Interesting because you get some people like loma who is a hybrid of styles. Foreman by some was classified as slugger but he was one of the best ring cutters of all time and his presence was swarmer-like. Ward is like a jack of all trades. Floyd was great on the outside but hella underrated in the pocket. Roberto duran's skills were criminally underrated. See his match against palomino he was countering masterfully. Maybe they classify them to their strengths because some of these guys while they have their strengths but, some of these guys have tons of dimension to their game.

Ward reminds me of Mikey Garcia....jack of all trades, but not 1 single physical thing you can point too that makes them great, however they are:ohhh:

They remind me of Tim Duncan of Boxing:wow:

Yeah like ward was quick at supermiddle but not blazing fast like prime dirrell but you just can't pin him down. He's like jon jones in MMA in that he's like water and sometimes beats you at your own game:wow:

Floyd was a couple years younger when Margarito was around than he was when he fought Maidana
and I also think that Margarito was more of a traditional volume puncher than Maidana who lunged in every second and then roughed you up on the inside etc...

I think Mayweather would have take Margs apart

Yeah there are definitely mixtures but I think we should stop to think about boxng styles in that boxer-puncher-swarmer relation

You wouldn't Golovkin and Porter are the same style for example

I see where you coming from but I disagree a little

Ward is less textbook than Mikey and more fluid on his feets, also Ward fights at every distance while I don't see Mikey doing that. Ward is actually outstanding in in-fighting

Mikey is more like Joe Louis or Alexis Arguello in style imo, good textbook technique all around with strong power, can fight any direction
