Golovkin Ridicules Canelo's Performance Against Chavez Jr.
Gennady Golovkin considers Saul "Canelo" Alvarez to be the biggest puncher that he's ever been up against in the ring.
The eagerly-awaited middleweight superfight will take place at Las Vegas's T-Mobile Arena on September 16, fight promoters confirmed on Monday. Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions had suggested a range of venues from Dallas to Los Angeles were being considered for the fight, one of the most mouthwatering match-ups in years.
However Golden Boy confirmed that the fight would be held at the 20,000-capacity T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. De La Hoya said Golden Boy had received expressed interest from several large-capacity venues, notably the Dallas Cowboys' AT&T Stadium in Texas and baseball's Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. Madison Square Garden in New York had also lobbied for the fight. But some of the location never submitted actual offers to secure the fight.

Golovkin believes Canelo is a bigger hitter than David Lemieux and Daniel Jacobs - two of the hardest punchers at the middleweight limit.
"No, [I haven't fought anybody as powerful as Canelo or hits as hard], nobody. I think he's first [among my opponents], he's the first real champ," Golovkin told TMZ.
"I'll train for this at 100%. It's a different style. He knows me and I know him. We trained together four years ago. But it's a little bit different. My coach Abel Sanchez has a plan. This is boxing. This is a huge fight for both of us. We are both ready for a big drama show. I don't think [he's felt a punch like mine]."
At the same time, Golovkin was surprised that Canelo was unable to stop Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. last month. Canelo battered and dominated Chavez Jr. over twelve rounds for a decision win at T-Mobile. The fight took place at a catch-weight of 164.5-pounds. Chavez Jr. appeared to have nothing in the tank.
“It was very interesting for me – because why couldn’t he stop him or knock him down? He looks terrible. He must [get the knockout]. If he has so much energy, so much power [by choosing to stand between rounds], then show me in the next round. After first round [you stand between rounds to show off], then stop him in the second round. That was to show muscles, maybe for girls," Golovkin said

Triple g always has compliments for his oppsGGG is either stupid or blowing smoke up Canelo's ass because Canelo has nowhere near the power of Lemieux or Jacobs.
Hell jacobs was the perfect fight to take before this fight honestly.

You sound a little slow.
Can we move on with this power thing?
With the same effort I could talk about how Golovkin is nowhere as fast as Lara, Trout, Mayweather and Khan.
Canelo has enough power to at least keep his opponent honest and with a high possibility hurt them too with combinations. Nobody in the division just gonna walk through those combos with his chin tucked out.
And that's the point. Who cares about Lemieux power if he's just crude af and has problems to make that power work even against lesser opponents?
Jacobs was a prefect tuneup for Canelo? Like how?
For once, they are two quite different style so they pose mostly different challenges to Golovkin
for twice since March everybody is on Jacobs' dikk while most of you ridiculed him before the fight cause he got KD against Mora and etc... and while he was viewed as the best Golovkin opponent up to date he was also viewed as a pretty big underdog and not a true elite fighter.
After the fight though momentum shifted and now we're hearing how good he is, not "how Golovkin couldn't beat this big underdog confidently"
now it's all "Jacobs is great, he would beat Canelo too. Look how big Jacobs was, he is a smw...."
I give Jacobs all the credit in the world which was think a close win over Golovkin, I do think Jacobs proven he's better than I originally thought he was but at the same time I think Golovkin hasn't got the same reputation after that figh and rightfully so. I won't say he got exposed because he is an elite MW but it was proven that he has limitations too and he's not the indestructible force the HBO hype machine pictured him before.
I want to point out how Jacobs went from a "have no chance, got KD by Mora" guy to a big scalp all in one fight just because a fanbase is not able to criticize their favorite fighter when he didn't perform the way they though he will or not as good - or not as good anymore - as they thought. It's easier to take the road where the formerly belittled challenger becomes elite overnight and takes all the "responsibility" than devaluing the fan favorite and admitting that you got sucked into the hype a little too much.![]()
You sound a little slow.
If you said GGG didn't have the movement or the style as Lara, Trout, Mayweather, and Khan you would be absolutely right. So what the fukk are you crying about.
Canelo wasn't a huge puncher at 154, 160 seeing he couldn't even KO a poor Chavez who was there for the taking or force a TKO it seems he is even more of a accumulation puncher at 160, which means he needs to be more active to wear down GGG to the body and he needs to get inside, something he doesn't have the mental discipline to do or energy to maintain.
The statement was regarding power, so we are talking about power, if that bothers you, ignore the convo string, simple as that.
Jacobs to me was perfect because it got GGG acclimated with fighting someone who moves, who has the power to hurt him and end it, and someone who would tie him up and smother him. I thought Jacobs won clearly over him, but its great that he experienced it because I think it lets him know wht he has to improve upon and he fought someone arguably better than what Canelo is so he is coming off a true test. Whereas Canelo had a glorifying sparring session going into the most challenging fight of his career.
Your Jacobs revisionism doesn't work against me. I'm one of the few people on this site who said Jacobs would win, put money on Jacobs to win, and had him winning the fight in the thread.
Sorry then, you can ignore it then but in general it is true.
I disagree with you though...
"Jacobs to me was perfect because it got GGG acclimated with fighting someone who moves" Canelo is not a big mover in general
"who has the power to hurt him and end it" I can give this to you but then again... hurt him on completely different ways in a different style
"and someone who would tie him up and smother him." Canelo doesn't really tie up or smother his opponents, sometimes he does but not more than the average... Canelo is an aggressive counter-puncher who likes to stay in the pocket and is great at combination punching plus he has a nice jab. For defense he rather pivots and rolls, ducks, etc... or put up a high guard sometimes but only at rare instances is he moving laterally or backwards behind his jab.
and I said let's move on with the power cause it's highly unlikely that Canelo's power won't be enough to AT LEAST stop Golovkin from just steamroll him but more importantly it's that he knows how to land his power shots better than the likes of Lemieux.
