Anthony Joshua refuses to rule out future bout against 44-year-old gatecrasher Shannon Briggs
The world heavyweight title contender would consider facing the former champion if 'the fight made sense'

Anthony Joshua has refused to rule out the possibility of fighting Shannon Briggs after the 44-year-old appeared at his public workout ahead of Saturday’s bout with Charles Martin.

Briggs, a former WBO world heavyweight champion, made his second unexpected appearance in the space of a week during the event at York Hall in Hackney, London.

The Brooklyn fighter previously turned up at a press conference to announce David Haye’s upcoming bout against Arnold Gjergjaj last Wednesday, where he called out the former WBA champion for taking on a relatively unknown opponent.

Briggs, who is unlikely to receive a license to box in the United Kingdom by the British Boxing Board of Control on account of his age, took the microphone and challenged Joshua at the event, before meeting the 26-year-old Olympian in the ring.

Reporters later asked Joshua whether he would consider facing the veteran one day and the British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion admitted he was open to the idea.

"Shannon Briggs is a game opponent, an unbelievable self-promoter, and you can never underestimate him," he said. "He's big, he's got a punch from the experience he's gained from fighting the champs, so don't overlook Shannon Briggs.

"He's around and he's here to fight, so that fight could happen if it's the right fight and it makes sense," he added.

Briggs has made a habit of trailing fighters who is keen to face in the ring, gatecrashing press conferences and surprising them in their spare time on a number of occasions.

The charismatic heavyweight infamously used a ski boat to follow Wladimir Klitschko out onto a lake while the Ukrainian was using a paddle board.

Briggs, after shouting his trademark catchphrase “Let’s go champ!” several times, instructed the boat’s driver to purposely make the waters choppy and subsequently knocked the then-heavyweight champion off his board.

Joshua’s world heavyweight title bout against IBF champion Martin is set to take place at London’s O2 Arena on Saturday 9 April.

They asked this nikka who he wanted to fight on live TV in front of 90k fans at wrmbley and Millions watching at home and he called out a 350 pound coke head with no boxing license and Shannon Briggs. They are clearly ducking Wilder
He was in the Wembley in front of 90 000 Brits and he called out Fury, another Brit who also beat Klitschko, wtf else you expected. Nobody in that arena but a very few knew who Deontay Wilder is... :mjlol:

He talked about fighting in America a few times, that would probably mean a Wilder fight. And it's also not like he wouldn't say Wilder's name he said he would fight him.

So let's chill with the ducking talks you acting out there like Pactards who were on Mayweather's dikk for year because of Pac and GGG stans who can't get off Canelo's dikk only difference that this is worse cause you're stating this bullshyt after the guy just beat the best opponent any hw can claim right now 4 fukkING DAYS ago :hhh:

He didn't mention his name in the post fight interview = he's duckin. 2017 boxing fans y'all :russ:

Like let him breath a little at least :dahell:

It's just looking like you're looking very hard for reasons to downgrade this dude, you're struggling for reasons why you dislike him. :heh:

You could say you don't like his fighting style it'd be okay

You could say you're a Wilder fan and think Wilder is bettet, it'd be okay

But you making up bullshyt instead trying to objectify your dislike toward the man... :shaq2:

Just admit that it doesn't feel good to you that he gets the shine and achievement what you wish Wilder would earn and it's all good cause I'd get it, I also want my favorites to shine but don't make it out like he would duck anyone and you would be some moral victor here just because he didn't call out your guy in his post fight interview :gucci:

I feel it's ridiculous that less than a week after his best win which is also the best win out of current hws (with Fury too) you're not out there giving him props but rather busting his balls...

okay and it could work the other way too. if he says doesn't want to face briggs he could face criticism of ducking him.

after all wilder is taking bellew into serious consideration as an opponent and the only reason bellew is seen as an credible opponent in the HW division is cause of beating David Haye....the same Haye who ducked the CANNON.

so yes as much as it seem it shouldn't cannon definitely a contender to look out for especially if he gets a belt off fast freddy.

What makes you say that?

See I kinda feel the opposite. I feel Wilder will always be there for Femi. Wlad is on his last legs, Fury is very unreliable, and Ortiz is gonna have age catch up to him eventually.

Wilder is in his prime right now and I don't see him going anywhere. Femi vs Wilder is a super fight which definitely should be built up as much as possible. Have them fight everybody else and collect all the belts. Then boom, you have a super fight with the best 2 HWs for all the belts. That would be huge
2 young, prime, black, undefeated, olympic medalist, world heavyweight champions with incredible power and KO streaks, though shown vulnerable in their last KO wins. Both from the Allied powers so there is a natural friendly rivalry that's hotter than ever for the undisputed heavyweight crown without facing the reigning champion (Fury) that boxing can't afford to wait on for lineal supremacy.

Waiting is bullshyt. Cuts, injuries, bad performances, an unexpected loss, age/wear-n-tear... These things are avoidable and unnecessary.

Again, I would not fault AJ for taking Wlad 2, Pulev, or Ortiz next. However, the biggest available fight that can be made and should be made IMO is against Wilder.

There's nothing left to build at this point.

Thid isn't like, for example, Ohara Davies and Jack Catterall. 2 young, undefeated British 140 fighters, but making that fight now would be a major disservice to the mega, in-house fight that could be made down the line.

Or, Tank v Walsh. This should be a much bigger fight but Walsh is not as proven, though a good boxer, to be world championship caliber.

In conclusion, due to 1 fighter or both's disposition, some fights need building. This ain't one of em... Strike now before something unfortunate gets in the way.

Wilder is still calling out both Parker & Joshua:

Aint no calling out no 45 year old washed up opponents over on this side of the pond breh:smugbiden:

If Joshua is as good as yall think he is, and Wilder is as bad as yall think he is, he should be ready to fight Wilder and take the 0, the WBC & WBO Championships, and a huge payday for an easy fight to unify the division:sas2:

if the fight gets made now...ill imagine wilder wants it in America. josh doesn't seem to want to come America yet...and seeing that he might be bigger draw and already have way bigger pay days than wilder...they'll want it in uk.

that's the only thing I see holding up the fight if no one is truly scared.

1. I didn't say that. if he says that he doesn't want to fight Shannon when asked about him by media directly then ducking rumors could start if he doesn't answer right.

also like I said before I don't think he ever called out Shannon. that article is not proof caused the reporter asked josh about shannon first and just states he's open to facing him. when he talked to max he seemed like he complemented him more than anything.

why would Joshua say he respects shannon?he likes Shannon "lets go champ" personality for whatever reason...even though Shannon backed Charles martin over him. After the cameras off Shannon probably gives him props and good advice ...shyt who knows.

2. I never said Anthony is way better than wilder or vice versa. I just don't think either is scared of the other one like all stan/fan bases are saying until further concrete proof is presented.

I like both fighters ...I just hope they put on great fight for hw division like klits/josh and help boxing come back into mainstream!!!

Joshua vs Briggs is the most wasteful fight that can be made in the heavyweight division. The only way that should happen is if you throw Wilder on the same card against Bellew or some other cannon fodder to hype up an eventual Wilder vs Joshua fight.

nothing happened to my account breh.:russ:

I mean if Shannon is not a real opponent then neither is bellew or haye bro.

I mean wilder said the only reason he didn't call out haye is because he didn't have a belt.

and wilder has said many time he was open to fighting briggs but claimed briggs wanted too much money. they never got that ironed out...just a bunch of back n forth with jokes n shyt.:yeshrug:
