WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley is tentatively scheduled to return to the ring on February 9th against an opponent to be determined in a fight televised by HBO. His ultimate goal is to secure a rematch against Manny Pacquiao or face Juan Manuel Marquez who knocked Pacquiao on Saturday in Las Vegas.
In a recent interview on The Boxing Lab, BoxingScene's official audio, Bradley told us that he is also interested in facing unbeaten junior welterweight Brandon Rios if Pacquiao and Marquez decide to engage in a 5th fight. Rios had previously been mentioned as a possible opponent for Pacquiao if the Filipino had gotten past Marquez.
"Any of those fights would be good for me. A Brandon Rios fight can definitely happen. Any of those fights you mentioned (Pacquiao or Marquez) interest me," Bradley stated.
The Southern California native said that he doesn't have a preference and that he just wants to face the top guys in and around his division.
"It doesn't really matter. I just want to fight the best out there. I don't need to name call. I want them all. In some shape or form these guys gotta go through me at some point. I want all of them from 140 to 47. 154 might be a little too high but I just want to fight the best," Bradley told us on The Boxing Lab.
I asked Bradley if he was worried that if he took a smaller fight in February that he might look past his opponent with a Pacquiao rematch, or fights against Marquez and Rios, looming as future possibilities. Bradley quickly dismissed that notion.
"Every fight is critical for me. Every fight is dangerous. I get prepared for any fight. I will be ready to go for February or March. I can't waste time and years. I need to get back in there and get my face out there on display. I'm 29 years old and 29-0. I'm in my prime," said Bradley.
Floyd Mayweather was another name we mentioned even though it is a long shot as Top Rank hasn't worked with the sport's top pound for pound fighter in years. Nevertheless Bradley said that he would be interested.
"I would love to fight the best. I would love to fight Floyd if the opportunity presented itself. I just want to fight the biggest names and best guys out there," Bradley concluded.
